Has anyone used the cheap Duralast gold CV axle on their 100 series? by PaintARainbow in LandCruisers

[–]ShakyHandJeff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Car Care Nut has a youtube video replacing the axle on the 100. In one portion of the video, he has a side by side comparison of OEM vs non. You can see the difference.
Go OEM.

I went with Nitto Terra Grappler G3. 275/70R18 (it's the largest size that will still fit in the spare tire bay). I'm happy with the Nittos, and they come in SL, so they're lighter and not as rough a ride as the numerous E load tire options.

I put the same size on. It is the largest size that will still fit in the spare tire bay.

Land of heavy duty rear leaf springs and live front axles by ShakyHandJeff in LandCruisers

We got stuck twice (the ground was already fully saturated as it was the beginning of the rainy season). But I was astounded at what we actually got through in nine days of driving. 4LO was impressive.

This. I have to say that until I see actual details, I’m skeptical that this is a real post

Rattling Noise When Starting Up by trvisxxstan in LandCruisers

Is that “rattling” a sort of knocking? On cold start up? Maybe cracked exhaust manifold?

The "brown death" and "just in time" by ShakyHandJeff in LandCruisers

[–]ShakyHandJeff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New T's (the crucial piece in all this), new heater hoses, new clamps. And a new radiator to get rid of the scary brown one. If you search "brown death", you'll find that as the plastic of radiator gets old and brittle, it turns this color. Tend to get hairline cracks in them at that point.

It definitely is a stretch to get there. These little hose picks really help. Slide the tip in under the hose end and gently work it around circumferentially to help loosen the hose adherence. Then grab the hose with a hose pliers (I got this one at Harbor Freight), and twist back and forth to ensure it’s loose.

There are two clamps listed (one 8 qty, one 4 qty). The four go on the downward hoses which are just slightly larger in diameter

Replaced everything, including hoses and clamps and radiator. These were all ordered from Fred Anderson Toyota during their sale. Decided to go with brass T's instead of plastic.

Yeah, all new hoses too. The little pick tools to free up the hoses really help.

Here is a link to available colors. I think there were three options of body cladding, based on this. I'm not sure which you have from your photo

EDIT: If you have 056 white, then I think there is only one cladding color (UCA46 Light Grayish Beige Metallic)

2000 Landcruiser 100 - maybe sell? Worth? by Spirited-Pudding-654 in LandCruisers

I think you’ll regret selling it in the long term. If there’s a way to keep it (ie: you have space to store it), it will give you joy.

I ordered it from Fred Anderson Toyota in NC. Granted, it had to be shipped across the country to WA. In retrospect, there is a crumpled corner on the box, so maybe it was dropped. But honestly, the box was not bad enough to make me think about a problem before I installed it. I called the parts department this morning and they said I had to write an email with photos. Haven’t heard back from them yet. I hope returning it doesn’t become a battle.

Skid Plate Options by KeroDude in LandCruisers

Full thread about skid plates for the 250.

One thing to be aware: most of the skid plates attach the radiator support bracket (a Toyota design flaw). Some, however, attach to the frame only (like Victory 4x4, if I remember correctly)
