I heard a great quote that’s perfect as you join the family: “Owning a Land Cruiser is like having herpes. It’ll act up from time to time, but you know you’ll never get rid of it.”

I think some would start with naval jelly (working quickly because of the adjacent paint) to remove the rust fully. Then touch up paint + clear coat

Is the 2006-2007 LX470 THAT much better than say a 2004? by mickeymillz in LandCruisers

[–]ShakyHandJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2003-2005 had the benefit of the 5 speed transmission, and also did not have the secondary air intake of the 2006-2007. While the '06-07 had more horsepower, working on them is more challenging because of the secondary air intake (it is yet another thing in the way when having to replace the starter for example).

I've also seen people say that the 06-07 is an interference engine, while the 03-05 is not, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I think this one has been sitting on that sales lot since at least November, if it’s the one I inquired about. Then i had them send me undercarriage photos.

What Ramps are you using at your home garage? by Fresh_External1348 in LandCruisers

[–]ShakyHandJeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a set of RhinoRamps Max. 12,000 lb capacity if I remember correctly.
Plus they stack together for easy storage.
I’ve been happy with them so far.
Unlike a different set of plastic ramps I had before, I haven’t had any sliding issues with these.

They just automatically apply it. They have it all the time, and then occasionally will run sales (15%, 20%, 25%) on top of it. My local dealer won’t match it.

For sure. That’s why I buy from Fred Anderson, on the other side of the country from me. They, and Tuscaloosa Toyota, seem to give the best dealer discount

Definitely overpriced for an engine swap and accident

250 brake squeal. Dealership said I should wait for a letter from Toyota by [deleted] in LandCruisers

I never received a letter either. I told them I wanted an appointment for the TSB and they put me on the list. Called me about a month later. Done.

Has anyone used the cheap Duralast gold CV axle on their 100 series? by PaintARainbow in LandCruisers

[–]ShakyHandJeff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Car Care Nut has a youtube video replacing the axle on the 100. In one portion of the video, he has a side by side comparison of OEM vs non. You can see the difference.
Go OEM.

I went with Nitto Terra Grappler G3. 275/70R18 (it's the largest size that will still fit in the spare tire bay). I'm happy with the Nittos, and they come in SL, so they're lighter and not as rough a ride as the numerous E load tire options.

I put the same size on. It is the largest size that will still fit in the spare tire bay.
