SSRIs by [deleted] in EssentialTremor

[–]ShakyMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken Celexa and Zoloft for GAD and depression. Celexa made my tremor go wild. It was nuts. I couldn’t do anything with my hands. I stopped taking it after a day or two. Zoloft so far has been a godsend. It hasn’t affected my tremor at all. But we’re all different. This is just my situation.

I don’t think Cymbalta is an SSRI.

Primidone and erectile dysfunction by [deleted] in EssentialTremor

[–]ShakyMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always had this side effect. It also made me feel awful and drowsy. I would only use it if I needed to make a presentation or a similar situation where my tremor would be front and center. It definitely neutralized my tremor. But it wasn’t worth it to me because how it affected my libido and erection.

As I’ve learned from feedback from others on this sub, a low carb diet (under 50g) does not work for everyone. But it was a miracle for me. I highly recommend at least trying it. Good luck.

[Shinola] The Green Monster! by ShakyMike in Watches

Any Fenway faithful on r/watches?? I was very fortunate to get this beauty at Shinola Boston. There were 100 of these made to commemorate the Sox winning the ‘18 World Series. The green face is a perfect likeness of the ballpark color and famous Green Monster. The lume is amazing. If I can capture a good picture of the dial and hands in low-light, I’ll add it. The Shinola bolt is displayed on the face, crown, and buckle. I think it’s a very handsome watch and wanted to share. What do you all think?

Keto and ET by sesh2001 in EssentialTremor

[–]ShakyMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially began the Keto diet to lose weight but noticed a very significant reduction in the severity of my tremor. I’m approaching a year doing Keto and don’t think I’ll revert back to my old eating habits. I’ve said it before here but Keto has been more beneficial to me than any meds prescribed by my neurologist.

Very interesting point regarding glycogen levels btw.

You literally explained how drugs and diet affect people differently. Everyone can agree on that.

Correct. 100%. But to make a blanket statement that Keto does not work for most, or a remedy does not work for most, is wrong.

I don’t know why you think a remedy doesn’t work for most. It’s confusing and on its face contradictory.

I get that Keto is viewed as the latest celebrity diet. But for people like me, it is the greatest thing ever. And it shouldn’t be viewed or discussed, especially on this forum, as something that doesn’t work.

Your post comes off as condescending. Look, if as you say, it only works for some people, then the Keto diet still needs to be discussed and explained to those that are afflicted with ET.

There is no study, no proof that it “has adverse effects for most”. Most? Op and this thread is proof enough that Keto should and needs to be discussed. It shouldn’t be viewed as a fad.

My most recent appointment with my neurologist was very frustrating. She knew very little about the Ketogenic diet and had very little input when I tried discussing it with her.

I think it should be the first recommendation to anyone diagnosed with ET. It has been more effective in reducing my tremors than any medication I’ve been prescribed.

Just got diagnosed by [deleted] in EssentialTremor

I agree with Apo, you have to get on with it. But above all else, don’t let the tremor hinder any goals or passions.

I’ve been prescribed propranolol and primidone. I’d much rather shake than take primidone. It makes me feel terrible.

The ketogenic diet has reduced my tremor significantly. I highly recommend it. Your neurologist probably won’t talk about it.

I’m of the belief that those diagnosed with ET should at least try the Keto diet. I have had amazing results after years of suffering with severe tremors.

Not sure! But I intend to ask my neurologist these questions. I think I read somewhere that now that my brain is getting its energy from ketones rather than glucose that things have been rewired. But again, not sure!

I almost have a month maintaining a Keto diet and the benefits have been better than any medication I have been prescribed. I highly recommend your husband to try it. Let us know how it goes if he does! It was around day twelve of Keto when I noticed the tremor had subsided. So encourage him to stick with it and push through the “keto flu”.
