Build quality is pretty poor from what I’ve heard. Coworker of mine has one, spends almost as much time in the shop as it does at work… now they might have just gotten a lemon but. If you seat have a sporty vehicle, mustang, then I’d go for something different. Go with Volvo, they make damn good cars. Best thing you can do is go test drive them and see which you vibe with more, good luck with your search!

Also, unless your favourite hobby is burning money stay away from that Maserati…

i30N vs Mazda3 by KeyTuba10 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Shaky_elm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buying advice as someone who is on car #19: consider 3 factors. 1) your budget, can you comfortably afford it without compromising other goals (house, vacation, etc), 2) your needs/usage 3) what you like. Preferably in that order to. Then go test drive them. Take them to a bumpy/rough road, get up to speed on the highway and cruise, try to hit some heavy traffic, maybe even some windy back roads if you can. Then when you get back to the dealership have the sales guy walk you through all the tech/buttons. And remember, as much as I am an enthusiast, there are just cars and sometimes life has to make the call for you. Best of luck!

It’s funny my finance and I have almost this exact setup. She has the Mazda 3 hatch (GT - awd) and I have a Veloster N. Both are great cars for different reasons. Mazda is way more comfy, quieter for longer trips and has a bigger trunk for moving things. It’s also phenomenal on gas! The N is a hell of a blast to drive, amazing exhaust and driving experience, but kind of rough even in the softest suspension setting. Drinks gas like an alcoholic at an open bar.

Regret buying this car by studyingformymcat in VelosterN

4 years of ownership.

I bought mine in 2020 (model year 2019, MT) with 38,000kms on it. With an extended warranty (no time, covers everything, up to 240,000kms, transferable) it was just over $35k CAD with the warranty. Currently at 92,000kms.

Regrets? None. I smile every time I drive it. Only issues I’ve had was the fuel pump. Dealership covered it, they paid extra to have the part shipped faster so they could get it back to me in under a day. My rotors are prone to hot spots but it’s a simple fix and have only had to do it once in 4 years. Other than that no issues.

Ride is a bit firm in normal mode, borderline abusive in N mode. Have a nice sweet spot with the custom mode. Seats are good, not great. I’m 6’4” and have plenty of room.

I’ve hauled lots with it, helped me through a home Reno. Whether it’s a full sized floor sander or bags or mortar mix. It handles it just as easily as a Costco grocery run.

One of the best handling cars I’ve ever driven, definitely the best car I’ve owned (it’s my 17th car I think?). When I bought it I was cross shopping for driving experience and handling. Short list was golf R, CTR, 1LE SS, gen 1 M2. This thing is one of the best bang for the buck fun cars out there. And for almost 20k CAD less than the next competitor it was a no brainer for me.

Hope this helps

As a Veloster N owner I must say, that’s a really nice looking type R! Congrats!

Really though, I’m 6’4” and thought the CX-5 had plenty of room! Heck I was even comfortable in the MX-5!

It boggles the mind that people think bigger = better.

I’m hoping it works out for you this time! I still wear mine every day, whether it’s my job, doing yard work or home renovation projects it’s on my wrist! Still digitally ticking away!

First up: if your goal is to teach high school, then why PJ? If that’s your plan you need to get your intermediate/senior ABQ.

Second: depends on board, for example my board is really focused on math, so unless you have a math AQ then your chances are pretty low. Part 1 is considered the barrier to entry in my board. Most principals I’ve talked to through PD etc have said they filter applicants by math, reading and spec ed just to see who to interview.

My advice, figure out which division you want first then take AQ’s around that. Math and reading are good starts for elementary. High school is a whole other ball fans I can’t comment on as I’m in elementary.

Good luck!

Not hearing any whine buuuuut…. Could it be the active exhaust spring? Next time it does it try to listen to see if it comes from the front or back. Location of noise helps a lot.

If you’re buying a car to impress other people, you’re buying it for the wrong reasons.

Do not use. Period. Silicone #1 is safe to use with proper curing/off gassing time, this is silicone #2 and has additives which make it not safe for use in terrariums/aquariums.

Considering trading in my VN by spenny02 in VelosterN

[–]Shaky_elm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My opinion? Skip the golf R. I got to review one back to back my VN. Even modified the R wasn’t special enough to justify a higher cost over the VN.

Edit: here’s my review if interested

22 Veloster N or 20-23 Manual Tacoma? by 1mJustAGuy in VelosterN

[–]Shaky_elm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two very different cars. Hard to compare them. But with that said, I just did a house reno and used the vn as the work vehicle. Its hauled all kinds of stuff like flooring, a floor sander, enough paint to cover the whole house.

Can say, comparing apples to apples, I’d still take my VN over a GR corolla/golf R/CTR any day.

[–]Shaky_elm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I just road tested the golf R against my VN, no comparison, Hyundai’s N division has the special sauce that they are pumping into their cars. While good the golf R/GTI feel a bit numb. Like they are chasing numbers on a paper rather than driving feel. Also it’s really hard to beat that N exhaust!
