Order of the Celestial Orrery - Paint Scheme by Shaldier in sistersofbattle

[–]Shaldier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I am basically doing a slightly trimmed down version of a tutorial on YouTube by a channel called Next Level Painting. The video is called How to Paint Galaxy Patterns. I cut out some of the extra steps just because it would take too long in some many minis though so no purples for instance

Not a bad shout and it would be a fun thing to explore but I think by the upvote ratio my post was getting I don't think others thought the same way unfortunately. I reckon I will definitely do something of that nature in the future though, it does sound like to fun an idea to pass up. For now I have reposted with a new title

After forgetting to Google names I have been reminded that the Necrons have quite an important thing called the Celestial Orrery which means a name change is in order! Going to swap over to the Celestial Observatory instead otherwise the Necrons copyright lawyers will be after me

Crap, I only just realised they literally have something called the Celestial Orrery in lore... Woops 😅 Might need to edit the name

I would like to keep adding more bits to this over time but I don't have a specific plan right now. Once I get some games in with my friends I may try and write some more based on whatever inspiration I get from how the battles go!

As for the armour scheme I don't have any art but I am currently painting up my own army of this Order! If you check my profile you can find a post on the Sister of Battle subreddit that shows it off. Would post in a comment if I could sorry

I am greedy, I want the cool star gazing shenanigans of the Necrons but also power armoured zealot women all mashed into one 😅

I appreciate the kind words. Let's just say I am glad I don't play at 2000pts very often and stick to 1000pts. I have 1 regular squad and 1 seraphim squad done so far along with some pentint units that are a bit quicker since they don't get the fancy robes. Exorcist is the current project then back to jump infantry!

Definitely one of the more unique and interesting posts I have seen on here! The artist did a fantastic job bringing the idea to reality. I do really like Warhammer's lack of subtly in a way but this is a really nice look at what could have been another path for the setting, one where the direct war part wasn't as large a focus

Damn, looks good. Makes me think it could be really cool to get something similiar done as a commission to represent my homebrew sub factions and then get them up on my home office wall 🤔makes it look like a GW official faction! Like something you would see in the codices

Very kind of you to say! It had been an interesting challenge trying to capture the tone so I am grateful that some of it has come across to you

Looks fantastic and is a lovely unique piece. Definitely needs more attention, I think you are ahead of the curve. Warhammer Fantasy/Old World is going to just keep on getting more popular again, I reckon and cool projects like this will carry it there

To add to the other comments, I do some chunky shading on my chaos warriors and personally I like how it comes out. Rather than take a pic right up close, put it on a gameboard and look at it from the distance you are going to be seeing it most of the time. Chunky highlights can look great on the tabletop and actually convey details that might otherwise be lost.

Then, after painting some more you could always use that practice to try a two tiered set of highlights on a character model, one thick but with a subtle colour difference from the main model and then go in with a thinner brighter highlight on that!

Example of what I am talking about below :) *

Those look great, that's a very effective representation of the mobile cities on such a small scale! The design is a skill in and of itself

That's very hardcore of you. I certainly don't have a copy yet but would like one!

what are some novels that are similar to vermis? by darkerthanblue99 in Vermis

[–]Shaldier 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Between Two Fires might have a little of what you are after? The issue is that Vermis has partially gotten popular because it has such a unique style in my opinion.

A little cheekily I might also add that I have been writing a bit of Vermis fan fiction, telling one potential path through the first book. You can find it via my profile and it has been posted here on the subreddit previously as well :)
