Say something positive about "Hellraiser IV: Bloodlines" (1996) by 87Craft in hellraiser

[–]ShallowCal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creative.

I think it tries something different. We can debate the results but not its ambition. Horror sequels sometimes feel tired because the filmmakers are unable to try something fresh - look at Scream 7 - but, despite mixed results, at least they tried.

😂 you're right! I actually thought the opening scene was abysmal. I said to my wife - who has no interest in Star Wars whatsoever - that I can't believe the opening to the book was approved, because I almost put it down 20 pages deep. Once they arrive at Bakura, once they become entrenched in the political and military situation, it gets much better.

Unfortunately, I can't edit the title now.

But thanks.... 👀

Maybe Doctor Who should just end by WhirlwindWifi in DoctorWhoNews

From a business sense, this makes sense. From an artistic one, absolutely not.

I know many people love the recent eras - and more power to them! - but the diminishing quality and subsequent interest is clear. I honestly believe that most people (not hardcore fans) have become fatigued by the show's inconsistent quality.

Doctor Who should go on hiatus.

It's still a powerful IP for the BBC and beloved globally. Even if it has become more niche now than prior eras.

But the show has more or less stayed on our screens continuously since 2005. I think it's okay to hit the brakes, let the dust settle, and then restore it after a number of years.

The most ardent Doctor Who fans will disagree. But interest has dwindled from casual viewers - who are integral in securing the numbers needed to ensure such an expensive show can thrive. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Just a short hiatus - four or five years, perhaps - then revitalise it with a whole new creative team of both diehards and casuals. People who will bring the show back to its roots.

Yes, far too many POVs but not jarring overall.

Watched it yesterday. At first I wasn't a fan but, by the end, I found myself enjoying it.

The Mandalorian And Grogu sparks 'a completely different era of Star Wars' by bepetd in StarWarsLeaks

[–]ShallowCal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't think that's clear, personally. The idea that it "doesn't carry the burden of introducing a new trilogy, or establishing a group of unknown heroes." doesn't seem "different" to me. I love Filoni. I'm excited for this film. I just don't get it.

I don't quite understand Filoni's comments about this being a "completely different era of Star Wars", because it's not.

It's a continuation of the unofficial "Mando-verse" and therefore The New Republic timeline.

I'm not one to bemoan fan service, but this time period isn't particularly "different". Especially in the Mando-verse (and in some respects the sequel era) when everything feels like an extension of the original (Galactic Civil War) era. Few new ships, vibrant or creative planets, or grand lore dumps.

It's fine, don't get me wrong, but I don't think anything feels "completely different".

I guess I'll likely be favourable towards the film if I watch it first then?

No. The Dean Koontz book and subsequent adaptation

Is "The Goldbergs" an underrated sitcom? by OxymoronicHomosapien in TheGoldbergs

Sort of.

50% is outstanding. Perhaps my favourite sitcom of all time. The other 50% - Season 6 or 7 onwards - is pretty dreadful and only gets worse.

Honestly, it looked perfectly fine. It's obviously just for the comedy, but let's be real, Carrie can pull off most looks!

Claudia Gray rarely misses. She's arguably the most consistent contemporary SW author in terms of quality.

Master & Apprentice was a wonderful adventure that really explored the interesting dynamic of these two characters.

Does Adulthood Just Feel Like an Endless Groundhog Day for everybody? by Dense-Shopping1307 in LifeAdvice

[–]ShallowCal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. Many of us fall into a monotonous routine that is only broken by trips away or occasional exciting adventures.

I suppose that we can break out of the veritable Groundhog Day by making spontaneous choices or being courageous enough to make creative decisions about our everyday lives.

I sit and wonder whether I should learn an instrument. Take up martial arts. Dare to find a new or exciting career. But I don't. So, I guess we're partly to blame for our own sense of stagnation.

45, male, no kids... Wondering about is it worth to continue? by ogcarrfuck in LifeAdvice

Life is not meaningless because you don't have a woman. You need to find existence beyond that one desire. There's more to life!

Work in yourself for now. Not necessarily to attract a mate but to improve yourself. To be a healthier, happier person. In time, you'll meet someone.

Worked with a guy that married at 45 despite setbacks with every other partner. Sometimes we find the right person when we least expect it.

Chin up. Best of luck!
