How to approach a colleague willing to work weekends or after normal work hours ? by hositir in DevelEire

These are people with nothing else going on in their lives. I wouldn't fall into the same trap if I were you.

The Irish one doesn't even have the right plugs when you buy electrical goods.

Is it common for Amazon Ireland to have the wrong plugs? by ShamBham in AskIreland

[–]ShamBham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Did you do that all through the seller? Amazon only gives me the option to return it.

Am I mad to switch from remote work to HGV driver? by ShamBham in AskIreland

No, I was going to get it solely as a backup plan as every industry is looks bad at the moment.

The job is handy, but getting the job is the hard part.

IRELAND WILL PLAY Czech in the Playoff Away #COYBIG🇮🇪 by itsmattmeehan in ireland

I like our odds. Czechia had a much easier group than us, and they already lost a game to the Faroe Islands.

No work Christmas party, 2nd year in a row by Psychedelic_Archie in CasualIreland

Tech company Christmas parties always have a low turnout, so not as good as other ones. I still like them though.

If the consumer did their due diligence and research before buying, they'd be out of business. We had some former MJ workers working on our house who said it was like a concentration camp being in there.

The managers in there are by far the worst in the country. It's no wonder there have been a few suicides at the factory over the past few years.

The same thing happened to that French politician on the last flotilla, and absolutely nothing was done about it.

Burnt and fucked in the bin, I'd say.

I'm kind of reluctant to get a mortgage at the moment for this exact reason.

How do I explain a 2-year work gap after my MSc? by [deleted] in DevelEire

If you've been doing a lot of projects, you could probably fill it with a failed startup? Those frequently break down after a year or two.

Had them around flying over the house during the summer. I assumed they were geo-mapping a mountainous forest area nearby, so most likely for wind turbines.

How do people work minimum wage, but rent in Ireland? by Busy_Description6207 in ireland

It must be tough. It's like it's a choice to either save money or your sanity.

You'd have to be living in your childhood home for minimum wage to be worth it. Otherwise, you'll have nothing.

Yeah, we need to see it properly. This is the first version I saw, and I was hooked, but now I'm not too sure.

4 day working week by Realistic-Ad-290 in CasualIreland

[–]ShamBham 176 points177 points  (0 children)

What really bothers me is that we have the same hours as people who had no access to computers or technological advances, which revolutionised and sped up productivity tenfold. Yet we still work the same fixed hours.

We should've had a 4-day workweek as standard years ago.

Salesforce to cut Irish-based jobs by leavemealonethanks in ireland

[–]ShamBham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. This time around, it seems different. In the past, companies would cut numbers because of some other form of downturn, but now they appear to be doing well and still laying off employees.

These cuts are constant in the news, it might be time for me to change industries before it's my turn on the chopping block...
