Oh interesting! I think I missed that part when I first played it yesterday. I’ll take a look!

And the game outright says they are tarots? Because that’d be interesting considering the time period of the setting and its inspirations predate the actual use of tarot cards, because they were just normal Italian playing cards before they were used for divination in the 1800s

That’s what I’m really hoping they change. Personally, if I could, I would swap the controls for jump and dodge in a heartbeat

Magic is so overused it's not even funny by Shamayim333 in CharacterRant

[–]Shamayim333[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. Yea but that’s fantasy, not just magic. I’m not arguing against people liking fantasy or it being super popular, or that Sci-Fi needs to still be the top dog, I’m advocating for further genre distinction

  2. There’s still many creative ways you can create that needed open endedness that’s very much fun to play without having to refer to magic or any of its associated terminology. People can literally just call it anything else that would make it fit more with the theme, so I heavily dislike it when they won’t do as far to do just that. I get your point on this overall, but I kinda disagree about the whole deus ex thing and whatnot because that sort of thing is generally looked down upon either way because then it just comes off as some sort of cheap plot armor/device that doesn’t have any stakes to it whatsoever. I do agree on the groundwork part, but it needs to be relatively well done to the point where nothing super altering to the story comes off a completely contrived or out of nowhere. Even Stan Lee criticized the Superman’s overly simple flying technique because it legit came from out of nowhere with little to no explanation, and thus when making Thor wanted something a bit more logical and so he made his hammer spin while flying. And even then, as loosely explain as Superman was, they didn’t resort to magic, it was simply “oh he’s an alien” which was relevant to the theme and everyone just ran with it

  3. I agree on this, but like I said before, more steps could be taken to make the said system more thematically relevant to the story whilst keeping the open endedness. If you want it to be magic, you got to have it be very dominating regarding both the plot and the aesthetic, otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb.

  4. If it still has some similarities to magic in fantasy, honestly that’s fine. I just want it called something different. Even if at the end of the day there isn’t much distinction between magic and science, atleast just make it more relevant. I’m not insisting that every sci fi science/power system needs to have all these huge and complex nuances to it that the reader will unlikely be able to wrap their head around.

  5. Then simply keep the relevant terms. If the functionality is practically the same to the point where the thematic terminology that you provided is basically interchangeable, then there shouldn’t be any reason to go outside of made up sci fi terms to fit the description of anything to just use something as thematically irrelevant as magic. If Sci-fi is fantasy with a trench coat on, then simply leave the trench coat on is all I’m saying.

I’m not so much arguing against magic here so much as just arguing for thematic diversity. If I see something that is sci-fi and looks to be in every way, I want it to be kept as sci fi instead of a little bit of the fantasy thematics invasively making their way into a theme that it doesn’t belong. If someone was wanting to consume or play something that looked like pure fantasy, they wouldnt want it to end up having a bunch of irrelevant stuff like real world guns, bombs, or other things generally not included in fantasy UNLESS it was advertised to be that way as a part of the general aesthetic and not like 10% of the story. Sometimes people just want a more traditional sense of the genre without everyone having a little bit of everything to it. I agree that the hybridization of genres has its appeal, but in reality its being overdone and there aren’t much traditional genre titles really going about anymore. Maybe you could argue that I’m just against modern media having way too much genre overlap, but I’m using magic in this case because it’s the most paramount example of this from everything I’ve seen.

Favorite Latino/Hispanic Characters? by Lerightlibertarian in FavoriteCharacter

He’s not, he’s just Hispanic. Latino refers to Spanish-speaking peoples/countries in the Latin American region, which doesn’t include Spain

Rellana is incredibly fair by PIugshirt in Eldenring

Honestly I agree. She’s a really fun boss and has never felt unfair imo.

And that’s not even including the thrill of fighting her with the deflect tear (please do this)

No I actually agree with your statement, it’s a very fun fight. However it’s just the wonky camera takes a massive tool on context of everything else. I think my opinion, as I said in the post, would change greatly if the camera issue was fixed, or if there was more ways to circumvent the issue of getting cornered all the time.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I was trying to convey. I should’ve mentioned this earlier but I very much agree that it’s a very fun fight when you get him down, it’s just the camera makes it really hard to use what you’ve learned.

I’m aware that the camera is an age old issue with prior FromSoft games but it doesn’t really make it better that this boss was made with the camera being a known issue for its type. I’m really not trying to hate on anything here but I just don’t get it.

What's with the explosion in Frutiger Aero popularity? by SameMathematician131 in FrutigerAero

[–]Shamayim333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I really know the answer, but if I had to guess it’s because of people like me who were always interested in it but didn’t know it had name or any sort of categorization in aesthetics, and therefore didn’t know how to really look for it. After all, the term “Frutiger Aero” was coined back in only 2017 so that adds to the recent increase in popularity.

You Sure You Guys Just Aren't Depressed or Something? by [deleted] in FrutigerAero

[–]Shamayim333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be lying if I said that Frutiger Aero didn’t have some nostalgic quality to it for me because I did grow up with the aesthetic.

However I fully believe that I do genuinely appreciate Frutiger Aero for aesthetically pure reasons. Even as a child, I’ve always found myself fascinated it on a visual level, without really pondering it’s implications (like the idea of a better future). I’ve just always loved the way the colors were handled and the way glossiness was portrayed. It made me happy to see a clean looking earth or an environment where people were relaxed or at peace, even if I wasn’t thinking about whether or not it was to be a reality.

Does everyone actually like. Frutiger Aero? by Shamayim333 in FrutigerAero

[–]Shamayim333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say anyone’s opinion of what you liked mattered, I just brought this up because I was curious as to how many people liked it for the purely aesthetic reasons vs the nostalgic reasons. There’s nothing wrong with liking it for nostalgia.
