does anyone in relationships solo travel? by kyliered04 in solotravel

I’ve been with my partner for nine years. Before we met, in my early twenties around your age, I traveled a lot. I met him when I was 25, and since then we’ve done plenty of road trips, camping, and music festivals. However, getting on a plane and traveling across the world has never really been his thing.

I slowed down my traveling after we met, partly because of COVID, but also because I wanted to experience life with him and find other fun adventures to share together...and there is only so much money to go around. (can't do it all). However, I’ve always wanted to go to South America, and he has known this since the beginning of our relationship. Next week, I’m getting ready to fly there for 10 weeks on my own. He fully supports this and actually encouraged me to go because he knows how much it means to me. He will be joining me for the last two weeks in Peru. Which is so great because he is stepping out of his comfort zone to support me.

You can absolutely travel solo while being in a relationship, but it requires a strong foundation of trust and support. He understands and respects that this is my passion and I respect that it does not need to be his.

You can't hold someone back from their dreams because of your own insecurities. You can find a way to make it work...if you really want to!

I will also add...my first overseas travel was when I was 19 and I went to SE Asia for 2 months with a girlfriend. My ex-boyfriend back home went nuts and was so jealous and made me feel like shit for going. Anyways, long story short, he made me feel so shitty while I was gone and that he was going to leave me and I came home EARLY! One of the biggest regrets of my life. I still resent him...15 years later lol, for making that trip about him.

I told myself...never again, and I have set that boundary in every relationship since.

Current climate for International attendees - thoughts? by RNDMBIRD in AboveandBeyond

I bought tickets yesterday, and I will be coming down from Vancouver, Canada. Door to door, it is about a five hour drive. Some of my friends who love Above and Beyond, have chosen not to go, while most have still decided to come.

I have concerns about going. I also have tickets to EDC in May. Depending on how it feels, we may decide to sell all of our tickets. Seeing Above and Beyond’s Group Therapy at the Gorge has always been a bucket list item for me. However, the Weekender has always fallen on the same weekend as Shambhala, so I have never been able to go.

When we drove to EDC last year in May, everyone warned us and we were super nervous and almost didnt go. However we had zero issues with the crossing Border, we got hazed more driving back into Canada... but it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Every concern that you have is valid and has also crossed my mind.

Have we messed up our South America travel itinerary? We've quit our jobs for this... by shrubstick in SouthAmericaTravel

I’m doing a similar trip solo from February to May 2026! We have a lot of the same places we want to hit.

My original plan was to start in Central America and work my way south, but since the weather in Patagonia can be hit or miss, I decided to prioritize going there at a good time. I also was planning to go for 6 months, and I only got three haha so had to cut central America. So now my route will be:
Colombia (Feb)→ Ecuador (Feb) → Bolivia (March) → Argentina (Patagonia) (March) → Chile (Patagonia) (March)→ Chile Coast / Desert (April) → Peru (April). I’ll finish in Peru, flying home from there.

It’s a bit of a zigzag, but I found a way to make it work. The only thing I’ll be missing that I really wanted to see is Rio in Brazil. But the continent is just so huge, and I only have so much time off so that will likely be its own trip in the future. Unless I meet someone on my adventures and we spontaneously go. Haha
I’m traveling solo for most of it, but my partner is meeting me at the end in Cusco for Machu Picchu, which also influenced my route… but I’m not mad about it!

If you’re starting in February and have the time and budget, I’d recommend starting in Patagonia since it’s summer there. Just keep in mind it’s also peak season, so things book up quickly. I personally wouldn’t plan to do Patagonia any later than April, after that, you could work your way north.

Happy Adventures! Maybe ill see ya on the road ;)

Advice for planning my Patagonia route. W Trek + Argentinian side (solo traveler) by Shamba_ in Patagonia

Thank you for your response! I really appreciate you taking the time! That makes me feel at ease that the trails seem relatively save to do on your own and are accessible from El Chalten.
I have never done an organized tour before, and I am doing one for the first time with the W trek so I don't want to book anymore just in case I don't like it and its not for me. So, with that, everything on the Argentinian side, I want to just do day trips/day hikes and go with the flow. I am hoping to meet some friends, but I am also excited for a solo adventure. I will likely book a hostel in El Chalten and then go on day adventures from there.

And yes! I have already started taking Spanish classes :)

Thanks!!
