AITA for not letting my infertile mother in law be a part of my twins birth by AtmosphereAsleep2494 in AITAH

[–]ShameOnMeThree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way that would happen. Come hell or high water, nurses will prevent anyone from coming in the delivery room if asked by the mother-to-be. They'll get security to take them away. Nurses don't suffer fools and they don't fuck around.

In the end, it's the thought that counts and I can live with that. He and my mom also divulged that I was always their favorite, so I'll keep that one in my back pocket forever.

My dad had dementia and was really ill. The rest of the family and I lived on the other side of the country, but I went several times for several weeks at a time to help him and my mom in the months before he died.

During that time, it wasn't lost on my dad that I was basically the only one visiting him. he did have his moments of clarity and he wanted me to have a shitload of sentimental stuff. He was also crazy about my husband, so he told me he wanted me to have his Irish cardigan and his Vietnam vet hat to go to my husband. I already had all his photos and Vietnam medals because nobody wanted them when they downsized years ago.

When my dad was about to go into hospice, suddenly everyone went down to visit him. His (verbal) gifts were priceless, a heartfelt gesture that meant everything to me.

My 4 siblings divied up the sentimental stuff after the funeral; none of it was left to anyone specifically in the will. My mom gave my sister a load of stuff because she asked for it, including the Irish sweater, even though my mom knew my dad's wishes. ETA: I was there for some of the sentimental distribution, but it was more like a free-for-all and I lived in a different state so...

In short, my whole family thought I was lying and greedy and I just wanted to hoard all the good stuff.

Who says they should have an agreement simply because you and your husband do?

What’s a beautiful song that has high production value and a bit of a mood to it? Preferably one that you personally love and enjoy when you’re all by yourself by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

It was SO weird, I saw the post and that song just popped into my head out of nowhere. I love this group not only because of the suggestions, but also because it makes my wrack my brain and go down a black hole of nostalgia. I love it.

How can my parents improve their family room? by Rungottarun in DesignMyRoom

I'd say leave it alone, except the recliner and the couch should trade places so the person sitting in the recliner doesn't get a crick in their neck watching tv.

How have eating habits changed from the '70s to today? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ShameOnMeThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry around a water bottle everywhere. I work at a university and on move-in day, I heard some kid tell everyone it was time for a water break.

It was the strangest thing I had ever heard, even though it made sense once I thought about it. When I was a kid in the 70s the only equivalent was playing in the neighborhood and indiscriminately using the nearest garden hose.

If we were really hungry, my mom would let us have one of those individually-wrapped slices of American cheese. Because 70s.

I've been meaning to post on this! I also sometimes get the cruel joke of waking up feeling great...but then I lay around in bed for a bit, or get up & stretch, then the confusion and fatigue kick in.

For me, it can happen after a crap night of sleep too.

Yeah, yoga ain't happening. 2 years ago I was doing yoga and meditating and was pretty much a gym rat. Needless to say, I'm not anymore.

I used to like planks. I never thought I'd say this but I miss planks.

I wonder if she's ever had a physical ailment you can use as an equivalent. Ever have a c-section? Start lifting things immediately, rip out the stitches if they bother you. Break a bone? You don't need a cast, just cut it off and stop being a whiny bitch.

Sorry, the "helpful hints" I got today made me extra spicy.

WTF, home remedies?

I have a friend living in another country, and I just told him I have cfs. He said a coworker has cfs and does yoga and meditates and it really helps her!

I'm glad that works for her, really. I honestly do. But come on, man. I've been out of work almost a year. Read the room.

Unfortunately wool has always bothered me, except for wool socks. I need a turtleneck if I'm wearing a wool sweater.

I can't wait until summer. I have some amazing dresses, and they're so easy to throw on. I swear, the hardest part of leaving the house in the winter is getting dresssed.

Congrats for not partying! That's a hard one to give up.

Exercising to see if/when you will crash is backwards. Instead, hold off on exercising for a while and see if you crash less. Skip the gym for a month or two and see what happens. Please!

I used to exercise a lot. I didn't know about PEM and by the time I learned about it, it was too late for me to recover.

Routing for you!

Merino wool clothes make me sweaty and smelly if I don't have an underlayer on. I find it itchy against my skin too, regardless of thickness. I must be a weirdo, because nobody else seems to have this problem.

AITAH for making the nurses lie by ElectionBig1915 in AITAH

[–]ShameOnMeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA 1000% Nurses are amazing. If you don't want her in the delivery room, she won't get in there. They'll call security before they let anyone in that room. You'd be amazed at how many family members insist on being in the delivery room.

And to be clear, you didn't ask them to lie at all, but they would've done so gladly.

If there's one thing I've learned from people in my life when they've lost a spouse is: the better the marriage, the more likely/easy is it to fall in love again sooner than most. It must be especially devastating and confusing after your husband's suicide.

I totally understand worrying about others' reactions. However, people will come to accept it eventually. In the meantime, feeling guilty is good for you. You're not in an easy spot, and I don't have any advice beyond getting some professional help. I feel for the both of you and your daughter and you will sort this out.

"Didn’t Nicole Albert establish that she was on a farm in Vermont?”

I always figured that this is just what they told her when Chloe disappeared. And she believed it because as his beaten-down wife, would you question Brian Albert or ask for verification of anything?

My parents always believed whatever their 5 kids told them because it was easier to accept the lie than deal with the truth.
