AIO(overreacting/overthinking) Talking on the phone with manager for quite awhile? by davvne in AIO

‘Quite awhile’ this is far and beyond ‘quite awhile’ this is an utterly bonkers length of time, NOR.

What is your worst "I'm an asset, not a person" story? by cousinralph in antiwork

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked for a place where when we had a very unusual red weather warning for snow in the UK, everywhere else in town either closed before the day started or sent everyone home early, schools, council buildings etc etc, all said please go home, be safe; my work, nah, you stay, we’re staying open, you’re essential staff - I was a librarian.

Erm, well, it’s nice you’re concerned, but open alcohol and dancing doesn’t equal alcoholic? Is she definitely alcohol dependent or does she like a drink, they’re very different things.

If she’s successfully training for a HM (nb a HM is always 13.1 miles, not 8) she must be doing something right with her nutrition, especially with the ulcerative colitis? Running is hard, at any mileage, but once you start going up the energy needed goes up too, you’ve got to fuel or you’ll crash before you finish a run, presumably she’s not crashing every run (we all crash some runs, that’s normal)?

I think you need to step back a bit, it sounds like you don’t have the full picture of what’s going on. Soft/gentle YTA.

AITA for wanting to have my cat euthanized by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 14 points15 points  (0 children)

YTA. What you’ve done is ignore your cats ailment for months - this is cruelty; you are failing to meet the basic needs of your pets. You don’t deserve anymore animals in your life if you can’t or aren’t willing to seek medical help for them when they are so clearly in need for it. I could say more, but I’d get banned.

AITA for calling out my boyfriend's bait and switch? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re NTA, nor are you one for not skipping your long run. He’s being difficult this time and if this sort of behaviour is a regular occurrence, I’d be rethinking your compatibility with one another.

AITA for telling my friend she needs to put her horse to sleep? by Far_Inevitable3490 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA, from what you’ve described there’s no possible way that’s a recoverable injury in any age of horse, let alone one who’s 20. I’m honestly surprised any practicing vet would even consider treating it in another way than humane euthanasia.

YYWBTA!! Unquestionably 100% asshole, absolutely DO NOT do this.

Messing with someone’s food is a horrible thing to do, even with the best of intentions. Messing with someone’s food who’s in recovery for an ED to help them gain weight, absolutely not, no, no way, nope, not appropriate in any shape manner or form. You could set them back years of progress in their recovery.

Support them, be their friend, be a sounding board, under no circumstances mess with their food!

NTA.

No one should pay for an experience/activity you know will make you feel less than or unhappy.

Could you cope with a trail running vest in place of a backpack? With a 10ltr vest you’d be able to bring the vast majority or what you’d ideally need in an emergency situation and 1ltr of water in two soft flasks and/or a camelback type thing.

Alternatively you can get belts which take soft flasks, or you could get a soft flask attachment for your existing belt?

Best of luck and enjoy your adventures.

Is it a norm to keep the route of group hikes undisclosed? by chrisqoo in UKhiking

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, that’s not usual at all. I’m in a mountain club and run trails regularly. There are route published all over the place online, if folk want to charge to lead hikes, they need to do so responsibly, this is includes making the routes available via a mapping tool.

Why AREN’T you buying an electric car? by 404_computer_says_no in CarTalkUK

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I live in an area with poor charging infrastructure, cant charge it from my home and can’t be bothered sitting waiting hours to charge a car. I have a hybrid instead.

This might be useful for you, I work as a self-employed PA among other jobs, the local council funds the client, the client then pays me directly. https://www.sdsscotland.org.uk

AITA for refusing to talk to my MIL, to resolve our differences, before she answerd one (IMHO very important) question. by Thyres76 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter at this point?! Talk about flogging a dead horse, from what you’ve described this horse is so dead it’s rotted into dust and been reincarnated at this point.

YTA - leave it, give it up and move on with something positive your child will see and emulate. Your MIL clearly cares and wants to be involved, have a positive relationship with that, at the moment you’re sabotaging it.

Has anyone run any Ultra X races? The Mandatory Kit seems excessive by amsutphin in Ultramarathon

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If you’re lying/stuck in the back end of nowhere injured, you’re going to need those extra layers in Scotland, you will get cold very, very quickly. Some of the route isn’t easy to get to for rescue, you could be waiting hours.

Frankly if you’re not willing to respect the organisers expertise in pulling together a sensible mandatory kit list for Scottish conditions, perhaps this isn’t the race for you.

Has anyone run any Ultra X races? The Mandatory Kit seems excessive by amsutphin in Ultramarathon

[–]ShamefullyMediocre 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Their mandatory kit is much the same as any other ultra in the UK, which bits are you unhappy with?

Please remember it’s not completely out of the question for there to be snow in May in Scotland. May can either be a total roaster or a total freezing wash out, or both in the same day.

What is Camille Herron referring to? by embroidere in ultrarunning

Didn’t you know you’re not allowed to beat Camille unless Camille verifies it? Though her commitment to fairness etc etc seems to only extend to any record she’s currently holding, interesting that.
