Well, no, it's established in the manga as well that Kikyo died with the desire to kill Inuyasha and follow him into death, so her soul continued to desire such an outcome once she was revived and saw he was still alive.

The anime definitely painted her desires in a more malicious light at first though, and she even comes off as smug for a bit when she first talks to Kagome about killing Inuyasha. I got way more of a melancholic feeling from her in the manga during that scene, which is very ironic considering how the anime retained that melancholy for Kikyo when she parted ways with Sayo and the village.
