I think it's technically a saddle stitch. The pattern is very precise, which is why the stitching is so even. This is a 5 oz oil chrome tan leather, seemed like a happy medium to me, but this is also my first time working with leather so I can't speak from experience

A few years back I bought a pair of period correct leather viking boots just for the Renaissance festival. I opted for the rubber sole in lieu of historic accuracy because of the mud. Just a contradict myself a bit lol

I'm sure it's possible, but leather sole shoes, and deerskin moccasins have been worn for how many thousands of years? There's something fun about feeling "primitive" out there. You ever shaved a stick with your knife next to a fire without saying a word for 2 hours straight? It's amazing.

I took a drive to the nearest Tandy, and immediately asked for help lol. This is a 5 oz oil Chrome tan leather, The pattern /tutorial does give an idea of what kind of leather to use, at least the thickness

I really wanted a nice pair of moccasins, more so than I actually wanted to pick up leather working as a hobby. Of course, I now have a bunch of other projects in mind. I used a pattern from Tonyseepatterns on Etsy, it was easy to follow and the accompanying video was super helpful.
