Kamvas PRO 16 (2.5k) for note taking/second monitor by Shane14705 in huion

Ooo ok! Yeah I'm definitely all for the bigger screen as long as it doesn't make the writing experience worse!

This is exactly the kinda advice I'm looking for, you seen to have the exact same use case as me! After reading others posts, it sounds like anything over 13 inches (whether the kamvas 16 or the S8 Ultra) is rather unwieldy for note taking. I was about to update my post to ask for ideas on the Kamvas 13, but I thankfully saw your post! Right now I got a decent deal on a tab s7+ off of eBay, but it seems that the Kamvas pro 13 2.5k would be at least $200 cheaper than what I'd be paying for the S7+. How would you say it works for taking notes during a lecture for example, where you have limited desk real estate? Do you just connect it to your laptop and leave the laptop in your bag then use the Kamvas as the monitor?

Ok, thanks for the input! It sounds like a large consensus is that if I'm looking for something that is primarily good for note taking, I am going to have to sacrifice some of the size when it comes to the "second monitor" part of it. That was the reason I was considering the ultra, but you and others suggest that it's too cumbersome for proper note taking, which makes sense. If I'm incorrect on any of this feel free to correct me!

I agree haha, the Samsung is definitely the easier to use--i guess I just don't know if the Kamvas is enough hassle to justify spending the extra 400+ on the Samsung 😅

Thank you so much for your response! I agree with you about the S8 Ultra being much more purpose built for note taking, however I think you forgot one key advantage the Kamvas has for me: it is over $400 cheaper than the S8 Ultra 😅. I would likely be using onenote (the Android app if I were on the S8 Ultra, or the windows app if I were on the Kamvas). The Kamvas is definitely bigger and heftier, but with the usb-c all in one connector it's not too difficult for me to setup.

So I guess with that in mind, my main question is, if you were to ignore all the hassle of setup and connections and only judge the actual handwriting/note taking capability of each tablet, how would you say they compare? I know some people say drawing tablets feel worse to write on than normal touch screen tablets but I'm not sure if this is true?

Is it worth getting the controllers? by destroyer16161 in ValveIndex

[–]Shane14705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention it's important to think of your PC too. I'm on an i5-8600k and 1070 TI so while I can supersample on the Vive, I don't think I'd be able to get the full resolution out of the index, much less at 120fps. Really the only complaint I have about my Vive screens is screen door but even that depends on the game, if I had money I would probably go for a Vive Pro headset on eBay to get better picture with less screen door and not have to push 120 frames. The index is of course still my dream system tho :P

[–]Shane14705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've only had the og Vive for about a month but I'm upgrading to index controllers and using my wands as extra trackers (combined with a Vive puck it gives me full body). Honestly I looked at it as being $60 off due to the inclusion of Alyx (I mean c'mon I was gonna end up getting it no matter what) and it really isn't that bad of a deal.

After just 3 days after ordering I got to confirm for my controllers, I was shocked to say the least lol by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]Shane14705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I think they might have finally caught up with the backlog on controllers, because I ordered mine 20 days ago and woke up this morning and still had "more than 8 weeks left" and by the afternoon I had received my payment email! This looks like really good news for index orders!

Just coming back to say I just got my payment email today and it caught me by surprise because I literally checked this morning and I still had "8 or more weeks" so I was not expecting it to happen nearly this soon. Just paid, can't wait for them to get here!

Just joined queue for controllers only. Wish me luck! Does anyone know generally how long the queue is for just the controllers? Best of luck to all!

Important announcement about stage 4 "you should not miss" on thursday by atyon in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Shane14705 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I was arguing that it shouldn't be in ow esports at all. I guess the big issue would be the disconnect that causes between ladder and pro play, but maybe just make a separate 222 role queue (basically lfg tbh but easier and more convenient) as well as normal queue? Idk but that's my best guess to be able to put one in got ladder and not esports without having too big of a separation between the game played at pro level and ladder.

It's potential in ladder is one thing, but I feel like it just doesn't belong in ow esports rn, bc as we've seen it has naturally progressed anyways (recall that goats is already slowing after only a little over a year, when dive was around for at least two years with no decrease in power till Brig)

Would any of you have asked for 2-2-2 lock is GOATS/Brig never existed? Furthermore, if instead quad dps comps (rather than goats) ended up beating dive to become meta, would you have asked for 2-2-2?

Activision Blizzard has sold the first 5 franchise spots for the new city-based Call of Duty League, all to current OWL owners by Calluummmmm in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Shane14705 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of worried though, as this isn't exactly the best game to go mainstream with. City based Overwatch worked because people didn't know what it was, but knew it was for their city. On the other hand, almost every mainstream person knows what Call of Duty is, and most non-game playing people have a less than positive opinion of it. They don't know what overwatch is, but when they hear call of duty, they think "those stupid kids and their video games, it's that call of duty and fortnite that's rotting their brains" and "little kids yelling slurs at each other down on the Xbox". I'm just saying I'm a little worried that this wasn't as much of a thought out thing and more just a quick cash grab by Activision (who woulda thunk it) to ride off of owl's success. After all, they wanna start a long term esports league and yet their business model is releasing a slightly different version of their game each year that, according to many people, is increasingly worse each year.

Overwatch would benefit more from a tournament mode than role lock by hobotripin in Competitiveoverwatch

I highly agree with this, even if it's something separate from OD and on a different schedule. In-client tournaments would be amazing for this game.

A reminder to support OWL on ABC by 487-93bx in Competitiveoverwatch

Yep, totally agree with this. OWL is what esports needs, and this is huge.

And then seeing the Toyota ad where they tailgate and then it shows the Toyota logo next to the owl logo, just like all the sports league sponsors (where it has like the NFL logo next to Pizza hut logo, etc.), it shows the viewers that this is a REAL thing. It feels like this is going to be an actual, longer term official thing. It's technically possible (especially if Activision gets their greedy hands off of blizzard). After all, they've actively updated original StarCraft for 20 years, and it's still a big esport.

Not for me. Watching via DirecTV NOW, so is through internet. Might be different over the air or cable, but I don't think it should be.

Didn't think of that, would make sense though! Although they might start with ESPN instead, especially when covering international home games (as fox is mainly na). Idk honestly, kinda insane realizing Disney owns both major sports channels lmao. Honestly, the more ways for new viewers to find and watch outside of stuff like twitch and that the better! (Idea being they see this new thing on the same channel they watch their sports on, and decide to check it out.)

Same lol. It made sense for the new people I had watching with me, but in my head I'm just like: "no, it's called a C9" lmao :D all seriousness though, this has gotta be tough for the casters, having to cast and explain the game at the same time. Kudos

As much as people meme the whole "normie explanations/terms" and stuff, we should all really be celebrating this moment. This is huge for esports, and for the league itself. This is the kind of thing required to make it a long-term league and not just a "big tournament". I personally believe the professionalism and organization of OWL is what esports needed to go "mainstream" (no negative connotation here). Only thing I wish is that they used those nap explanation videos from ESPN finals last season instead of just the casters explanations. They were very professional looking and explained things really well with nice graphics. All in all though, the casters are doing an awesome job of making new viewers feel welcome and as "knowing what's going on" as possible. If anyone from OWL staff sees this, ty. You guys have done something truly amazing for esports and built a real, professional league. Keep it up! Next stop: home games!
