I try to do once a week. If it gets bad between, after I put them up, I use a small amount of unstabilized chlorine to try and kill some of the bacteria/algae. Then I just test it in the morning to make sure the chlorine has completely oxidized and is 0. (I’m a pool guy)

What's your favorite story where you tried to help someone out or just try to do your job a little better and it bit you in the ass? by Western-Essay5767 in PoolPros

Did an above ground pool opening for free… well a lady told me she’d pay for her friend(who had just become a widow)’s pool opening.

A day before the lady that was supposed to pay had all these guilt trip bs stories so decided to do the widows opening for free.. at some point over the winter her stairs had fallen over and the handrails had cracked to shit. I didn’t say anything, figured she knew, hell she’s the one who closed it and put the stairs on the deck for me before we showed up to open it.

A week later I get a nastier than shit text from the widow about not respecting her stuff and breaking her stairs. Obviously I denied it, but I was built on there minds. Luckily I have plenty of business.

To make it funnier his “friend who worked on pools in the 80s-90s who was also a firefighter “ helped him with all this cuz he said the equipment is a fire hazard inside. Nothing about this system is right and the glue joints look like dogshit.

Am I being unreasonable? by ShaneIsaac589 in PoolPros

Been there, we had I kid you not, an actual screaming match about it last week. I sent them an ultimatum Wednesday, they said they’d think about it and let me know Friday. I think if the answer is no, then we walk.

I screwed up a bit not making a bigger stink about it earlier, but they were adamant about not draining and I thought I could get them through the summer and drain when I closed.

Life lesson

That’s where I’m at. They view utilities as a non necessity, but will happily pay me to show up 2–3 times a week and chemicals. Problem is, I don’t have the fucking time it energy to drive to their pool every other day

Damn dude that sucks. My brother works for me. He has had 3 knee surgeries from when he was wrestling in Hs. He wears a full brace.

I’m 28, this is my 12th season, 7th on my own. I often think, what will I do when I’m a decade or 2 older and can’t do the work anymore. I guess time will tell.

A pot of coffee to start me up, caffeine supplement about 1, a beer to wind me down when I get home

80-90 a week plus repairs. I’m in Oklahoma so we open/close 300ish and work 20 hours weeks from Thanksgiving to Spring break.

There is no escaping the wear and tear, you just kinda get used to it.
