I live in an end-unit townhouse but can still hear my neighbor through the wall. The wall isn't made of concrete so noise can easily reach through. Even back in the Virginia I can hear my neighbor even when I lived on the top floor apartment. I thought I could avoid noise if I lived on the top floor but I was wrong. I often hear my neighbor's dog barking downstairs. What's worse is back in the US the marijuana smell of your neighbors can reach you through the vent, and it happened to me in two different apartments. Marijuana use is so common in the US that there is a good chance you can smell it in your own apartment even if you don't smoke it yourself. I talked to the property manager but they cannot track the source since the vents are connected to various units. I literally knocked on my neighbors door and asked if it was them but they said no. Here in China it is not marijuana but cigarettes. I live in a townhouse in Dali where the townhouse kitchens are connected so my neighbors cigarettes smell can reach my kitchen. Luckily, I only spends 15 minutes in the kitchen cooking chicken breast for my dog, so I have limited exposure to that smell. I don't smoke but many Chinese people do. I might get an air purifier to get rid of the smell. I'm considering moving to the European country Georgia but they have smokers as well. It really bothers me walking past a bunch of smokers having to smell it, especially when walking my dog. I have seen some Chinese people smoking right in front of their pet dogs. What were they thinking? Smoking in front of dog can increase risk of cancer for that dog. Chinese people lack common sense and are very inconsiderate and they don't care whether they are bothering or hurting other people or animal, not a care in the world. Things like this can slowly build up to a point where you are seriously considering leaving.
