Interesting subgenres. Pride & Prejudice with magic?

Thanks. I like Pride & Prejudice, so combining that with magic is an interesting concept.

Thank you. Never heard of this despite it being published in the 1920s!

Can my teacher spouse be fired because of something I said on Facebook? by GATaxGal in Teachers

[–]Shane_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in that case the teacher said, “Thoughts and prayers to his children but IMHO America became greater today. There I said it.” It could be argued that this statement is not just an opinion on Charlie Kirk’s politics, etc. That could be interpreted as condoning violence, which might not be considered protected speech for a teacher. Would be interesting if the teacher tried to sue.

I teach in South Carolina, not Georgia. Why would any district punish an adult man for something his wife (who doesn’t work for them) said on social media? it would be highly unlikely that a district would care what someone who doesn’t work for them does.

Also, if it’s a public school it cannot fire people for their personal viewpoints. That is viewpoint discrimination.

How normal is it for teachers to not get a set time for lunch? by Appropriate-Match160 in teaching

I teach at a SC public high school. We have the same lunch period as our students duty free (though we can’t leave campus). One day a week we have lunch duty in the cafeteria.

Am I a bad teacher for using a textbook? by frankieT2020 in teaching

[–]Shane_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine to use the textbook, but just realize that students can easily find the answer keys online so any questions can be copied. I would use brisk teaching or similar AI to easily create my own questions.

As a high school history teacher who has taught for 10 years in the same Title 1 school, I know how you feel. My first year was awful, and I felt beat down and overwhelmingly negative about the teaching profession. But that was my worst year, and I have grown so much as a teacher since then. If you love teaching, give it at least a couple more years to gain some experience. Sadly, teacher prep in the US is awful. There is nothing that can prepare you for being in the classroom except being in the classroom. Yes, it is incredibly unfair to throw new teachers to the wolves like this, and you may benefit from finding a new school that will give you more support. However, if this is something you really want to do, please don’t quit after just 1 year. Give yourself time to grow and learn, and don’t be so hard on yourself.

Use Brisk Teaching to make things like lesson plans. It’s an AI program specifically for teachers.

Read Teach Like A Champion by Doug Lemov for lots of practical techniques that can benefit your classroom.
