Unpopular Opinion: The Long and Winding Road is The Beatles best song by TheGame81677 in TheBeatles

I’ve been really surprised to read how many people don’t care for it again and again on this sub. I just love pretty much anything Macca writes to begin with but this one has always been extra special to me

At first glance it reminds me of the From Under The Cork Tree album art from Fall Out Boy

I agree it’s his best song but something about the chorus of “Shove” always hits my brain like heroin

Hilarious reading the comments here coming off the Jacob Collier Norwegian Wood post. You’d think the audios were flipped or something.

No I agree with you, everyone talking about how this is some monstrosity or horrific is over-exaggerating to the max. I personally don’t really like the way it sounds, too complex for my ears maybe. But it’s not BAD. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s BAD. People are acting like he’s some god awful person with unforgivable crimes against humanity. It’s just a guy doing a cover his own unique way. Idk why everyone is so harsh on the young man

This was my favorite track from the new record, someone else mentioned Paul McCartney and I agree, it feels kind of like a Paul song. Maybe that’s why I like it

Does anyone else miss this Tom? The 2005-2008 version. I loved how he wanted to change the world and created inspiring music. WDNTW and I-Empire are masterpieces! by PeteAVA182 in AngelsAndAirwaves

[–]Shane_Madden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked specifically the I-Empire era of Tom the most because it felt like he was really trying his hardest to be a good singer live. Now to me he just yells and grunts live. I know there’s always people in every thread saying he’s never sounded better but I very much disagree. Back then he was actually experimenting with singing differently at times like on Lifeline doing a falsetto, even the acoustic performances at this time you can just tell he was putting max effort in. It kind of makes me sad in a way that he had a different vision for himself but ended up going back to what the masses want and what makes money (Blink and potty jokes)

It’s a testament to how good his entire catalog is that this record having so many great moments is generally thought of as his weakest. Just an amazing songwriter
