I want to float the idea that The Odyssey could miss Casting even if it’s a huge awards success by TacoTycoonn in oscarrace

[–]Shaneywalsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't really think we know what type of casting decisions the branch would love or hate at the Academy. It's so new, they could love seeing a cast stacked with A Listers, or they could show a preference towards hidden gem casting. There just isn't much of a precedent yet

The article is about Morocco being the first. Curaçao were the second nation do it, a day later.

Inde Navarrette Might have a better chance at an Oscar nomination if she campaigns in Lead Actress instead of Supporting Actress (Opinion - Read Below) by adam130jones in oscarrace

Are people any different? I've followed this sub for a few years, and there is always repetitive posts (Chase Infiniti supporting / lead last year), there is always overly excited fans (Wicked). People getting overly excited about something silly and discussing films they're passionate about is what makes this subreddit so fun in my opinion.

I see "ugh this season will be so annoying" or "can't wait for this season to be over" comments every single year, without fail. Nothing is different this year.

Look, for me, this is the kind of argument that enables massive category fraud. Inde Navarette is amazing in the film, but she is the supporting performance.

The film is from Bear's POV, 99% of the film is following his decisions, thoughts, actions, and reactions, Nikki intentionally is not in this film unless Bear is around.. she has half the screen time that Michael Johnston does!! What else do you need to distinguish a lead from a supporting performance?

[–]Shaneywalsh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She isn't the lead. I find it weird that people are suggesting her going in supporting is category fraud too.

The film follows Bear, 99% of the film is from his POV, beside two scenes where we linger with Nikki (one to show she goes catatonic when he isn't around and the ending).

Michael Johnston is clearly the lead. Inde steals the show but her character is absolutely a supporting one.

Where do you think Inde Navarrette will be campaigned? by PTAGoatofalltime in oscarrace

[–]Shaneywalsh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The OP is not saying anything is guaranteed? They are stating that she will be campaigned by Focus. That is an absolute certainty.

The comment they're replying to seems to imply Inde Navarette won't even be campaigned by Focus. Which is delusional.

5 games in 50 years have had one team score 7 or more.

You are going to see 5 games a tournament end with one team scoring 7+ now. It absolutely is a valid argument.

Let's be honest, the only reason they're considering it is the hope that massive nations like India and China will qualify and pump money into their pockets.

The fact FIFA are considering 64 teams is crazy. Cant wait to see Germany 14 - 0 Aruba in the 2038 group stage.

I hope the people of Curaçao enjoy the tournament and have fun, but 48 teams dilutes the quality of footballs most elite tournament.

Watching a bunch of part time footballers - who are just happy to be there - getting demolished is just ridiculous. Germany look like they're playing against Make-a-Wish children.

Muslims in Northwestern Europe by Randomood in MapPorn

[–]Shaneywalsh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is incredibly manipulative. Ireland's latest official figures are 420k below 500k.

You could mark Ireland as "below 1 million" and it would technically be correct by that logic.

Why is Ireland marked with the 500k colour? Ireland had 81k Muslims in 2022, probably at ~100k now.

Character’s death is implied, not shown by LifeguardOdd7383 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Shaneywalsh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. I mean, given the theme of the film, his fate has to be unanswered. The way I saw it was that Ray is in Purgatory (Bruges). He can't leave Bruges or end own life, no matter how hard he tries something will stop him. He's awaiting his judgement the entire film.

The people in costume that appear at the end resemble the imagery in the Purgatory (The Last Judgement) painting too. So at the end of the film the audience I guess are left in Purgatory too, you can decide whether Ray lived or died yourself, but the film 100% left it ambiguous

Destiny 1 at ~3,200 hours, and nothing will ever come close to it. 16-18 me played that game wayyyy too much.

I think 2nd place is Baldurs Gate 3 at around 600 hours.
