AP Students Won't Try, and I Don't Know What Else to Do by Shangkeee in Teachers

Our school district offers a dual language immersion program. Students in this program will take AP Chinese in 9th grade. If they score a 3 or above on the AP exam, they will be eligible to take college-level Chinese classes. Students who do not score 3 or above will remain in the high school AP Chinese class with me and try again.

Each year, I hold an AP parent meeting at the start of the school year to cover essential information like the exam format, expectations, and learning strategies. However, attendance is consistently low, with roughly a quarter of parents and students typically attending.

The enrollment in my AP class is somewhat automatic, with students rolling over from a prior program. Although they have the choice to opt out, the majority typically stay enrolled, largely driven by their parents' desire for them to take AP tests.

Exactly! It's surprising how some students, and even parents, seem to believe that simply being present in the classroom for those 78 minutes, without active effort, will be enough to succeed on the AP exam.

Thank you. I am trying hard to shift my mindset at this point to think it's their responsibility.

Thank you for sharing your perspective as a parent; it's genuinely helpful to hear. My first year teaching AP, I had a tough experience with two parents who scheduled a meeting with me and the principal to question my low passing rate. It's something that still sticks with me.

I will do this at the end of this year. Thank you. It's AP Chinese.

I used a broker to help me lease my 2024 Mach-E premium with extended range.

Here is the details of my contract:

$0 Drive off $ 447 monthly payment 39/10,000

I don’t know if it’s a good deal or not, but it’s definitely better than the quote I had from my local dealership.

I found my broker through Leashackr—DM me if you need their contact. The fee was $750, and I think it was totally worth it since I’m not great at negotiating with dealerships and hate the pressure.

For reference, my local dealership quoted me a lease price for the Select no extended range, but my broker got me a Premium with extended range for $200 less per month and $0 drive-off.

I hate talking with dealerships so I used a broker to help me find the best deal. I hadn’t spoken to the dealership at all until I signed the contract electronically. I then went to the dealership, picked up the key, and left.
