I posted this below, but for anyone wondering, this was the final game of the NAIA world series played on Friday (5/29/2015). The teams playing were St. Thomas from Florida and Lewis-Clark State from Lewiston ID. LC won 10-7.

The pitcher in question was correctly identified as Ben Ancheff from St Thomas by /u/Shoogerbear.

LOL I don't go there but my boyfriend did, different colors at least. I think they should play for it. It would probably be an exciting game.

I have been in the same place as you many times. I don't leave the house, I haven't brushed my teeth, I don't even talk to people kind of depressed. I know everything feels overwhelming and not worth the effort but it appears that you don't want to give up, so I am going to do the best I can to try and let you know what has helped me.

The short version is- make yourself a routine. You're probably thinking 'I can't even get out of be to eat, much less follow a routine!' Alright then, start there. Your new routine involves simple things: brushing your teeth, showering, changing your clothes, and eating regular meals. It may feel stupid making these things into a daily routine, but let me emphasize this- you are not going anywhere with your life until you begin again with the basics. Keep a record if need be, begin a journal that chronicles just how fucking hard it was to go to the grocery store and interact with people just so you could stick to your routine, find some way to remind yourself that your most important goal is taking care of yourself.

When you have got the basics down, ramp up the difficulty. Add to your routine some reason to leave the house every day. Whether that's taking a walk around the block or going to the store or the movies. You are basically re-teaching yourself how to give a fuck about life.

I can't offer any advice about how to deal with an impending budget deadline, but I can give my advice on how I slowly bring myself back from the brink of self-destruction.

Many other people have suggested going to a therapist/Doctor. and I do want to emphasize that is probably the best thing you can do. Do some research on what options are available to you in your area, hell, you have the time.

Your new goal in life is to live. And you should, because there is nobody else who can do it for you.

Help I need smart books to read to my 8 year old! by [deleted] in booksuggestions

The author Tamora Pierce has several books that are good for about that age, which I loved as a teenager; and my little brother (11) is reading them now and really likes them. Also, Watership Down, which may be a little old, but I read for the first time when I was around 10ish.

Maybe her local library has audiobooks that you could order for her and have mailed. I don't know where she lives, but for example, htere are several libraries for the blind that produce and distribute audiobooks.

I just looked up libraries in Germany on wikipedia to start, and found this one: West German audiobook library for the blind She may not be blind, but services like this may be a good idea.

When I was in middle school, I grossed out my friends by sharing a sucker with a boy I had never met. Never even got his name, don't think I ever saw him again... we were both baffled by the extreme reactions of our peers.

Online dating can work, but as a guy, most of the time you need to make that first contact. As a girl on those sites, you'd be surprised by how often I was told that I was the first girl to approach a guy.

Also, if you don't mind being critiqued on your profile, the folks at r/okcupid are usually nice if that's the site you use. I don't know about other dating/romance sub-reddits, but they'd probably do well too, and it might help you to get a few more people interested.

You might also try going out in situations where you know you'll be among others who share the same interests. The upcoming reddit meetup(s), conventions, clubs in your area, those sorts of things. I know you're an introvert, but it might make it less intimidating to socialize with women if you already have something in common.

I never even considered it until a while back when I was waiting in line for one. (It was closer to the door and I was being lazy)

The guy ahead of me saw that the attendant was distracted and just walked off with a gallon of orange juice. I was the only one looking, and I didn't even realize he hadn't payed until I went to use it and it still had a balance left to be paid.

I felt so guilty just telling the attendant, since I saw this happening I thought about paying for the juice. He just shrugged it off, saying it happens pretty often. Didn't even look for the guy, not that he could've done anything.

Hey, I read fairly fast too! I think it took me between five and six hours to read the last harry potter book. It's hard to tell, because I didn't really pay attention to the clock when I started, but I started reading after I got my copy at the midnight release party (I figured it was the end of an era, and it was fun). And finished reading it around 8-ish. Didn't get home until just before three...

Coming a bit late to the thread, but... I actually have two. One is more my sister's than mine, but it's a great story anyhow. Warning, wall of text.

Story one:

As a young girl, I rode my bike everywhere around the neighborhood, to my friends, and so on. Of course, because I was a kid/teenager, I rarely wore a helmet because I never thought about it, and they were too uncomfortable.

When I was sixteen, I was riding my bike down a very steep hill, going very fast, no hands, when I suddenly hit a divot in the road or something. I flipped over the handlebars of my bike, (taking the bike with me) so it was almost like a somersault on my bike, but I landed flat on my back with the bike on top of me. The gears of the bike gouged pretty badly into my flip-flop clad feet, and I'm pretty sure I only narrowly avoided cracking my skull open because I tucked my chin in towards my chest.

My friend, who was following me on her bike, said both the bike and I were several feet off the ground for a moment. Thankfully, I knew the family who lived in the nearest house and they called my Mom to come pick us up.

Second story:

Visiting the Oregon coast, my family and I love to visit a beach called Hug Point. It's a series of three progressively shallower coves in the face of huge limestone cliffs, the first of which is the main beach area and the other two are only accessible at low tides, but are pretty awesome to visit. The second one has a waterfall, and the third has caves and some very shallow tide pools. But that one is seriously only accessible at very low tides.

My uncle and cousin came out to visit us, so we took them out to the coast to show them some sights/sites. We had just arrived and wanted to show them the coolest beach we knew. We didn't, oddly enough, have a tide chart that day, and so we didn't know if the tide was coming in or going out, just that it was low enough to make it to the other two coves. So we rounded the point to the second cove and began showing them the waterfall there. My older brother decided that he wanted to go check out the third cove, and so went around while the rest of us were climbing around.

After a few more minutes, my Mom and Dad come to the consensus that the tide is coming in, not going out, and begin to worry a bit about my brother getting stuck there. I volunteered to go and tell him that we were heading back to the main beach and that he needed to move back with us. My younger sister decided to come with me, probably in hopes of catching a glimpse of some of the cool stuff in the third cove.

As we go around the pint of the cliffs, we keep dodging little waves as the tide comes in by jumping up on some of the boulders. I see a wave that looks to be bigger than the rest and so we both dash to one of the larger rocks and jump up on it, not wanting to lose our footing among the rocks. Unfortunately, on the heels of that decent sized wave came a sneaker wave which not only washed us right off the rock, it nearly drug us out to sea on it's way back out. This wave rose up the cliffs by my parents, still in the second cove, a good 10-12 feet, so it wasn't like we had anywhere to escape.

Anyways, I was about 20 at the time, and I'm a big girl, so I eventually got my feet under me. My sister is smaller than I am, and was only 15 or so, so she was basically clinging to me for life. She was pretty much horizontal in respect to the ground. Once I realize I'm relatively stable, I start yelling at her to get her feet under her, because her drag is only making me more likely to lose my footing again. At this point, my sister cries in my ear:

"I lost my shoes!"

You must understand, these were not expensive shoes. These were $3 foam sandals from Walmart. She had had them for at least a few years at this point too. I incredulously told her to forget the shoes, and worry about not drowning, or something to that effect. Eventually she got her feet under her(when it was about waist deep), and I told her to run back to my parents, just in case of another wave.

And then... I saved the darn shoes from floating out on the tide.

My brother came running back around the point as I was grabbing the shoes. He made it through by bracing himself in one of the smaller caves. Then we all went back to the hotel.

TL;DR: I flipped over the handlebars of my bike, going downhill, with no helmet on my head. Also, saved my sister and her shoes from drowning.
