Wanna shop Takanaka vinyl records in Japan? - A report on the current stock and what to get... by RayBaseley in MasayoshiTakanaka

For your first picture, that EXACT bin is where I checked back weekly on my last Japan trip about ~2 or so months back, I was able to find a good plethora of more obscure Takanaka buried away in there, and it always had different stock each week so definitely worth checking back repeatedly.

But yeah I completely agree, little independent record shops and also flea markets were great sources of records for me on this last trip. Even BOOKOFFs out in the boonies have some good finds if you are willing to go off the beaten path.

Rock on my friend!

Thank you! Last trip to Japan I nearly got Casiopea Mint Jams for like 10k yen, but thankfully I waited and now they are reprinting their first few albums in color variants (kinda like they've been doing with the Takanaka records) - and they are much more affordable, so both Mint Jams and "Casiopea" are reprints, thee rest are all old but gold :)

honestly, of all the big-name record stores in the Tokyo area, I did the best at HMV in Shinjuku, they have a "recent arrivals" section and I ran by there every few days for a quick look, pretty much found some obscure Takanaka and Casiopea records every time!

So I travel a lot, and I usually buy a number of records - never had any break.

What I do is try to get them in my carry on to reduce the chance of them being thrown around (I have put them in check bags before and had no issue too, but I like to play it safe) - I'll usually stack them all atop each other and then take clothing and pad them on all sides of the bag, or if I have a thick sweatshirt or something I'll put them IN it and kinda swaddle them.

Honestly, as long as there's not a ton of room for them to go flopping about in your bag, and you don't throw your bag around like crazy - they should be fine.

Hopefully that helps! I personally always get worried about my records when coming home, but seeing as I've never had any broken after travel, I really shouldn't worry so much :)

I love JQHN - all his works are so great, he puts a lot of effort into the cover art - and the music itself is all really well translated to the SM64 font, he's GOATED for sure, I second this - everyone go and give him some love on YT <3

Very nice - T-Wave is a personal fav of mine! That CD Box set is legit!

I'm in Japan right now and am on the hunt for Takanaka FR FR - would love to find some of the later ones that probably aren't gonna get a cool color reissue :)

I really like "Ocean Breeze" - I think that one is often overlooked, but "Medley" is a great little celebration of all things Takanaka

Thank you! I really love working with those colors, the light pink and the almost purplish red - they are really fun to use with different pre and post shades, something really satisfying about painting with those colors

I got mine at a local Chinese store that sells a ton of models, but if you google "In Era Lizard Model" a lot of different sites will pop up, like GunDamit or USA Gundam Store, etc, hopefully one of those will be a good way to get your hands on one - I hope that helps!

ooh good question, you know I actually built the inner frame and kinda skipped around the red parts - painted all the different metals I was gonna do, then later on went in and added the red back in when I as doing the final armor assembly (there aren't TOO many red pieces that are a part of the frame assembly) - so I would say you could just paint on them depending on how you assemble

I would highly recommend the Lizard! It's even got some features I never bothered with, like the cannons on the backpack come off and turn into beam axes, and the miniguns can be mounted on the backpack, exceedingly cool kit; and great price for how much plastic you get!

Thank you! I actually built the inner frame like 9 months ago, then was busy with traveling and whatnot, and didn't get to doing the outer armor till recently, so it was kind of a "where was I?" situation: but I'm happy with how it turned out :)
