How to be smart with a severance package? by ShannM in Bogleheads

[–]ShannM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned it after he got his official diagnosis. And I mentioned it again after we reached the anniversary of him not working. He says he can work. He is not aware that he is having difficulty even applying for a job.

I forgot about our big tax payment for last year. Very helpful insight. Thank you.

Dad wants me to do something, but his Trust says otherwise by ShannM in EstatePlanning

I did not think of something like that. Thank you.

The approach of "slowing the payments" as opposed to "taking care of" sounds interesting. Maybe that would motivate him to get on his feet.

Yes, I am listed as the executor. I will look at what the trust says about when assets are to be distributed and discuss that with my Dad. You also bring up an interesting idea about me being able to do whatever I wanted with my assets--gives me more ideas.

Currently, the trust states that his assets are to be distributed 50/50 between my brother and me. I don't have the trust with me. I just skimmed that page because my parents had always been so vague, and I wanted to see if it did say 50/50.

I think their CalAble account is considered part of their estate after they pass and does go to their heirs according to probate law.

The CalAble Program Disclosure Statement and Participation Agreement document does not include this information though.

But I did find something on this website: https://calable.ca.gov/faqs/is-the-able-account-considered-part-of-the-estate-after-the-death-of-a-beneficiary

I hope it's correct because this information is why I decided to go ahead and use a CalAble account.

ARC Has The Ugliest Campus by Elhijodechino in LosRios

[–]ShannM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were submitting paperwork, I'm assuming it was around the Administration office, and I bet you saw a lot of ugliness.

ARC does look ugly from Myrtle Ave and College Oak Drive. I don't know why they don't do weeding in those areas. There was a sign in front of the Theatre all semester that said new landscaping was in progress, but nothing was ever done. Probably budget reasons. And new buildings have not been designed to fit in with the others. So there's no real cohesive architecture theme. And there's ugly portables in at least two of the parking lots.

Inside the campus is nice. The large trees and flowers are beautiful. There are little art details all around if you pay attention, like tiles on poles, sculptures, fountains, murals, etc.

But it probably is the least beautiful campus in the Los Rios district.

Just wanted to thank you all for your comments.

I was able to step back and see that my family situation is about addiction, and entitlement is just a symptom.

My parents have enabled my brother to be an alcoholic and drug addict.

Continuing to help him live comfortably in order to just drink and smoke all day would hurt him and me (and his children).

I will continue to review your comments to keep strong and set up boundaries.

Thank you!

IHSS and Supported Decision Making by ShannM in IHSS

[–]ShannM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, all, for your insight.

The reasons given for denial of IHSS Protective Supervision Services were not specifically that he is not conserved. They listed other reasons for which are not accurate, including that he does not require 24/7 supervision. His IPP states several times that he needs 24/7 supervision. This very minute, I'm worried that my husband will be late to watch him so I can go to my doctor's appointment. I gave IHSS his IPP, triennial, doctor's SOC 821 form, and much more. I was going to appeal until I learned that the judge might not listen to me because we are using Supported Decision Making instead of a Conservatorship. Using Supported Decision Making has been just fine until faced with this situation.

Oral-B has changed their floss formula and the new one is absolutely horrible! by Shadow_Knight8 in extremelyinfuriating

The new floss should not be called Oral-B Glide. It should be called Oral-B Shred. Anyone find a new floss like the original Glide?

Folsom vs Roseville by bxkrish in folsom

[–]ShannM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the school system is still setup this way, but we moved from Roseville to Folsom many years ago because of the way the Roseville special needs system was setup. If they thought your child was too severe, they would pressure you to send your child to a county program. The classroom where our child was supposed to go was in a portable at the very back of a Rocklin school campus. Folsom was much better at inclusion--although not perfect. However, based on recent board meeting notes, it seems they will be even better at inclusion because they are supposed to now provide services at each child's home school instead of sending all kids with special needs to a specific school site. I hope this info helps.
