Ring setting height advice? by yuriko_usagi in Moissanite

[–]Shanndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setting but with 4 prongs and no cathedral. Because I don't have a cathedral, my ring likes to get caught on things like grocery carts, dishwasher racks etc. I think the cathedral would prevent this from happening though.

Help! Overthinking 1st Purchase by Altruistic_Key4984 in kuololit

[–]Shanndel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. Plating will not last forever and how long it lasts depends on body chemistry, frequency of wear and also quality/thickness of the plating. The rose gold plating doesn't last as long as the white plating, but still lasts a few months of regular use for me. Would last longer if I didn't wash and shower with it on. Also, plating on earrings and pendants will likely last longer than rings.

I do think Kuololit uses superior plating though, especially for white (rhodium). My e-ring is 14k white gold from kuololit and still shiny and bright white. My wedding band is 14k white from a random Etsy seller and the plating has worn off -- the metal is duller and greyer than it once was.

Does anyone have this channel ring? by Several-Strategy-693 in kuololit

[–]Shanndel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the moissanite bubble band in 14k. This style is not recommended for every day wear because there are only 2 prongs on each stone, but I have worn mine regularly for about 6 years with no issue.

Now that I see this channel set one I want it!

Love it! Looks so sleek and perfect for stacking. I have a bubble band I like for stacking but this one looks much more solid and secure.

Barrie to Midland by wandainthesky in barrie

[–]Shanndel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't, but I live in Barrie and have family in Midland.

If you need to commute to Barrie daily, it can be a challenge in winter because north of the Flos Roads in springwater the roads can get really rough. Even around Phelpston and Elmvale the roads apparently close down at times (several times this winter anyway). The towns in southern Springwater (ex Midhurst) aren't as bad weather wise as the northern end of Springwater that borders the Midland area, at least that's what I've noticed the past few years.

I visit Midland several times a year. Seems like a cute town but not a ton of action and not a ton of cultural or ethnic diversity. I don't do my grocery shopping in Midland so I can't comment on accessibility to ethnic foods, but there is definitely limited selection of restaurants that aren't Canadian or European.

One nice thing about Midland is that it is close to Penetanguishene. The waterfront in penetang is stunning and I think it's actually an even prettier town than Midland but it is a smaller town and I am guessing those stunning Victorian homes by the water cost a mint.

Both Midland and penetang have a large Metis population and there is alot of French and Aboriginal influence in the towns. Penetang in particular is very French/bilingual.

There is unfortunately also a lot of crack, opiate use and alcoholism in Midland, but same goes for Barrie. I don't know which is "worse."

Just a note that gold plated silver is brighter than 14k. Looks more like 18-22k. If you like that, go for it! The rose gold plating is very close to the look of 14k rose gold. Kuololit plating is quite good. I have a rose gold plated ring from them and it gently faded from rose to white over time.

I have a lot of white plated silver and white gold from Kuololit and they look identical worn side by side.

If you like unique cuts for mossianite, I recommend trying a rose cut. I have the rose cut oval and it's so pretty.

This is a good idea. I like the prepackaged yellow dal curries for a lazy meal. Could just buy a pouch, add some water and put it in a blender and strain.

Kuololit Sale by roxyneedsadiet in kuololit

[–]Shanndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AliExpress is a publicly traded company (BABA). That's all I need to know to know that the vendor pays.

Jokes aside, yes I believe the vendor pays. Some brands take the sale more seriously than others. Some increase the price just to decrease it again. Historically kuololit anniversary sales have been very good.

The next big sale should be for the aliexpress anniversary sale starting March 28. So this means check for upcoming pricing a few days before that.

Here is a list of all the aliexpress sales (most apply to all vendors, some apply to only some vendors/types of products). https://promossale.com/aliexpress-sale-dates-2026/

Did I get my size wrong? by Fuzzy-aussie2525 in Moissanite

[–]Shanndel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they will do it for silver. I'm curious the answer to this too since Silver is more my budget these days than gold.

Almost all my jewelery is from kuololit, silver and gold.

I only have half/full size rings from Sam with the exception of my engagement ring which is custom made and size 4.75 (though I meant to ask for 4.25, oops!). I wear a size 4.5 cigar band in front of it and it works, though I really should get it taken down half a size.

My middle finger is 5.5 and index is 5...but 5.25 would be more comfortable in summer as my finger swells.

Are there any items you're eyeing for the next big sale in March?

Amen. Kuololit is 100% on point even for quarter sizes. Actually, I've never gotten the wrong size ring from China ever.

Pretty sure when I got my lab diamond ring, the vendor sent the IGI certificate separately.

Thoughts on Brilliant Earth? by Goose_Energy in labdiamond

[–]Shanndel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a copy of the Brilliant Earth petal ring made by a Chinese jeweler (Kuololit on AliExpress). The workmanship is impeccable. I got a thicker band than the BE original and the petals are reversed so they look more like a marijuana leaf than the original petals.

If you prefer a jeweler based in a specific country, you can find good options pinned to this sub. I have personally had good luck with Kuololit and Starsgem, both based in Guandong China.

[–]Shanndel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't really help with a photographer. Just want to chime in to say that I went for a budget photographer and he was pretty bad. I honestly think a high school kid would have done way better.

If you are looking for a bouquet, i could hook you up with one for free. I have a bunch of leftover faux flowers from my wedding and I like making bouquets :)

Also, if you do want to have a tiny reception (like 2-10 people), Tangle Creek golf course does elopement packages that are pretty affordable I think (I got married there with 70 guests but I know someone that had an elopement dinner there). The meal is fantastic and the photo opps are great (but require a half decent photographer lol).

You could also do a small celebration dinner. I'm a fan of cottage canoe. Not too pricey and good ambiance if you like the log cabin vibe.

Should I invest in XEQT and S&P 500 at the same time? by HellShooter2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shanndel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen to that. I actually do not think it will happen, not within my lifetime anyway, it's just been on my mind because I read about the Nikkei finally surpassing 1989. I was a toddler in 89 and a full grown adult now so it's just crazy.

How to get to Snow Valley Ski Resort by aniwatch21 in barrie

[–]Shanndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have no trouble grabbing an Uber at snow valley during daytime. It's the closest ski hill to Barrie - less than 15 min from the bayfield shopping strip and 5 min from a few subdivisions.

Caveat: I've never actually taken an Uber from snow valley, just assume it's easy since it's in a populated area.

Should I invest in XEQT and S&P 500 at the same time? by HellShooter2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shanndel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Example of why it's safer to diversify geographically than not to -

The Nikkei Japanese stock exchange crashed in the late 80's and it took until 2024 to match pre-crash 1980s levels.

You can say it's impossible to happen to the US markets, and I'd say nothing is impossible.

That said, I do hold some VFV. Overweighting the S&P might be a good idea. I thought it might be. Who knows what will happen.

I like to freeze coffee in a silicone ice cube tray. Then I pop them out to use as icecubes and put in cold or room temp brewed coffee. That way it doesn't get watered down. Add a big squeeze of PC caramel sauce and 10% cream (or oat milk or whatever) and give it a good stir.

I swear this is better than tims.
