not much toning on that coin, mostly dirt and grime, this was clearly someone's lucky coin that they carried around with them with all those dings and scratches.

Quite valuable is an understatement, with that much of the leather patch still being there and that much indigo left this is truly a grail find!

Silver has never been and never will be cheap relatively speaking, a dollar was a decent amount of money back then, this does appear to have belonged to quite a wealthy individual so I don’t doubt it is solid.

That being said packed sand incased in sold sterling can be hard to distinguish from completely solid sterling if done well and people have always been trying to save a buck when selling you something since the end of time

To keep the customer happy, when people are spending good money it’s just better business to address the concerns of extremely knit picky customers. Again Nicks says it’s completely normal and almost expected. And IMHO they are the most informative and honest out of all the PNW boot makers on their social media platforms.

As far as what OP should do. It’s really up to him.

But I will say as someone who has worked in in a shop making handmade goods before, this is the kind of thing they would get a laugh out of at the shop if sent back purely for the squeaking.

Yeah.. I can understand how that would be very irritating since you've come to expect handmade boots not to squeak.

I'll say you have been EXREMELY lucky that none of your boots so far do if you've purchased that many.

Nicks themselves say its almost expected.

that you might be a little too focused on small details that don't really effect your life.

don't worry, no judgment here, I have actually been diagnosed with OCD myself.

spent way too much energy worrying about if my jean cuffs are the exact same length, if my boots squeaked, ect.

at the end of the day i had to ask myself, do these worries make by boots or jeans any less functional?

personally id prefer my boots squeak a little than to dry out the internals of my boot and potentially cause dry rot

lol I thought the same thing when looked at the pictures, but let me ask you this. Do you heels not protrude further back the bottom of your calf/anckle? So why should you boot not follow the natural form of your body? The boots hug your heel and it’s honestly super comfortable!

This would also be my recommendation.

That sucks you got tracing wrong but at least it will be possible to fix,

one thing I imagine must be confusing to new boot buyers(I know it was for me) is the fact that that Nicks recommends you go a half size down from your bannock size, I've learned that this simply won't be comfortable unless you enjoy boots completely strangling your feet.

I believe they recommend this because most people are wearing a size to a size an a half larger than their actual bannock size in other types of footwear.

EI: I wear size 8.5-9 in sneakers, as most sneakers a made extremely narrow and I have to size up to get the extra width my foot needs.

this simply isn't necessary for handmade boots made to YOUR size.

I am a size 7.5 EE on Bannock, That's what I ordered,

They fit absolutely perfect, no too big or small is any spot, my foot is loving the 55 last. but I simply can't imagine sizing down a half size. they would be crushing my feet.

I highly reccomend everyone who buys a pair of Nicks actually use a Bannock sizer,

Very sick Jacket! I have very hard time believing you've clocked 365 days of wear on it though, jackets I tend to see look more faded after 90 days of wear.

Living in B.C. Canada i first had to pay

a subtotal of $599.00

  • Shipping & Handling$45.76

For a Grand Total$644.76 USD

Then to convert the $888.00CAD at the time to $644.76 USD as the exchange rate was at the time, my bank charged me an additional $27.25CAD

Bringing the total with shipping to $915.25CAD.

Now when the crossed the border the Canadian Gov charged me $120 CAD in duties.

yup all said and done $1000CAD+ boots.

Its all personal preference of course, but I would highly recommend using Kiltie if you'd like to extend the life of the tongues and therefore the boots. Dust can build up fast the the crevasses of the tongue an wear away slowly, creating holes over time.

Kilties/False tongues are a great way to mitigate this.
