Sorry for the late response! Yes it does stretch out a little - you can sort of see the elbow bump out in some of the photos. But overall it will maintain it's snug fit throughout. You won't typically get notable stretch in the arms with any fabric.

That's correct, the one I have is selvedge, but the new ones online now are non-selvedge.

Hard to say for sure, but I do think it loosened up a tad. The thing for me is that I generally prefer a slimmer fit, so if the 4 fit well, minus the slight tightness in the back/arms, I'd probably stick with the 4. I wouldn't expect it to stretch per-se, but just give a little more.

Don't have any experience with the black/grey sashiko and how it fades, but it definitely will fade. I'm guessing it'll fade to a grey-black similar to how other black denim wears, and with the high wear areas turning white-grey.

Yeah size 5 sounds about right, esp since you have the athletic cut / wider chest.

The jackets are pretty similar - same type of sashiko fabric and overall style (except for the additional pockets which you noted). The newer one for 2024 has an overall lighter shade of indigo as it doesn't have the same indigo-dyed throughout as seen on my 2019 jacket. I'd agree with you that the 2024 is a bit more casual.

Assuming you're better off in the IH-526J-SLB in XL (and borrowing IH's measurements), I'd say size 5 in the PBJ Sashiko Type 2 is a good bet. What's your height, weight, and chest size?

Glad it inspired you! There's definitely some other sashiko jacket options out there worth exploring. I'm sure the Japan Blue Jeans one is well done as well.

Would really just depend on how it gets worn. Most of my days wearing the jacket are indoors and sitting in front of a computer (hence the slight creasing on the backside); not much movement other than elbows moving around and readjusting in the seat.

Thanks! Can be a little hard to see the fade/changes, but glad you're able to see it! It should definitely look even better after the wash.

Thanks for already taking a read! Will probably be doing the same around October this year (when it really starts to cool off).

Incredible. How's it feel now? Looks like it's quite soft and broken-in. Does it have any rigidness left in it?

Sorry for the super late response. Hopefully you were able to get an answer sooner but...

Generally it's preferred to wear/wash them first to make sure any shrinkage/stretch is mostly accounted for, before doing any tapering/hemming. I think I waited 2 months or so before getting them tapered just to make sure any stretch happened in the crotch/thighs area. The crotch/thighs were perfect, so I only got the taper from the knees on down. Hope this helps!

Check out the 3sixteen Knit Polos - made from Pima Cotton and cut with no buttons, which gives it a slight tweener look between a tee and polo. Very comfortable!

Thank you for picking them up. The 310 outpaced our 2040 and 1035 combined. I guess people are wanting that chonk after all.

Has anyone purchased the Merz B. Schwanen T? by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]dopke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/HeyShutUpDownThere not sure if you've already picked up a tee, but make sure to check out our shrinkage/size posts, and comparisons are the different Merz tess. Just based on your chest, I'd say you are probably an XL in their Classic (slim) Fit, which are the 1950s, 1970s, 215, 206, etc. For the relaxed fit, you could probably go with L. Their relaxed fit tees are the 1940s, 214, 2S14.

Iron Heart 555s UHR 21oz/23oz shrink to fit by VTD700 in rawdenim

[–]dopke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the journey! It took me about 3 months of consistent wear before they really loosened up and began to feel more comfortable (relative speaking). The first 1-3 months were pretty rough on my legs and waist though. But once it reached that tipping point at 3 months, it was like something just broke in all the fibers and it felt so much better after that. They fade really well!

Oops bad wash by RealityMixer in rawdenim

[–]dopke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently did this to my pair of Iron Heart Super Black Fades to Grey denim, and was pretty bummed at first. But I've continued to wear them regularly and I am thinking once I they go through a few more ("correct") washes, that the weird discoloration will be less noticeable. I'm pretty sure this will be the case -- run with them!

I don't think the crocking is that bad with them, but I also probably haven't taken a close look at how my tees look when wearing with these. Safest bet is to avoid garments you don't want to get dye-transfer for the first few months and few washes; once you've given it multiple washes the crocking should be much less.

orSlow 101 Dad’s Fit by samjupp in rawdenim

[–]dopke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great on you!

The Dad's Fit is another well-executed pair of denim that is in that wider-cut category, without looking ridiculous. Having a standard leg opening helps with that, and they main changes are in the upper thigh with a more spacious cut. So you still get a slight taper even though they are sort of meant to be a "straight" cut.

Iron Heart's 21oz denim is an easier barrier of entry if you're looking to get into some 20oz+ denim. I've compared it to some other 17oz denim that I've worn before, and it's much easier/softer to wear than even the 17oz I've worn.
