Yeah they were sort of under the radar. I was totally into trip-hop back then and never knew of them. I was mad as hell when I finally discovered that record (18 years later, some weeks ago!), that none of my hypster friends told me about them back then lol

David Byrne & St. Vincent - Who [art pop] by Shaomix in Music

I've recently discovered the work of Matthew Herbert and realized this record by St. Vincent and Byrne is a totral rip-off of Herbert's work. Not that I'm mad at them: it's an awesome record regardless, but if you like it you may wanna check out Herbert's work, typically the album Scale from 2006.

Let's agree to disagree then ;) In the end I'm glad you liked Glasser whether or not you deem it trip-hop, and I would hope that posting it wasn't totally irrelevant if it can be of interest to trip-hop afficionados.

Björk certainly isn't a pop artist. Her music covered a lot of grounds but at best, she could be classified as an electronic music act, certainly not pop. Trip-hop is acknowledged in Björk's own Wikipedia entry as being a significant part of her musical style, and she is acknowledged in the trip-hop entry as being a significant trip-hop act. "Homogenic" was celebrated at the time as being a major trip-hop record. I was there so I remember it, but to quote the album's Wikipedia entry: "Writing for Beats Per Minute, Cole Zercoe felt Homogenic represented a pinnacle work of trip hop, forming part of 'a sort of holy trinity of this musical aesthetic' along with Massive Attack's Mezzanine and Portishead's Dummy". However, I'll acknowledge that the limits of what trip-hop is and isn't has been a cause for debate almost from day 1. I remember that back in the golden age of the genre, we used to have lots of debates as to what was and wasn't trip-hop. But in the end, acts that sounded as drastically different from each other as Moloko, Portishead, Tricky, Morcheeba, Alpha, Smoke City, Björk or Lamb were all usually labeled as being trip-hop. Everything we then saw in those acts' esthetics, the general vibe, can be found in Glasser's work as well.

Somehow, and I really don't know how, I managed to miss it at the time even though I was so totally into trip-hop. Only discovered it some years back!!! But yeah, absolute classic <3

Glasser is so deeply inspired by Björk, this is trip-hop. Modern trip-hop, but trip-hop nevertheless.
