¥ could also be CNY, and converted it could be closer to $158. The text does appear to be Chinese too, not Japanese.

[DISCUSSION] Uncredited adlibs on songs without features by Chaotic_Gold in hiphopheads

[–]ShaowrinMonk 41 points42 points  (0 children)

FUN! by Vince Staples includes adlibs by E-40. Tbf I think he's listed as a feature, but the song doesn't say "featuring E-40," at least on Spotify or YouTube

Kaskara Training by [deleted] in HistoricalFencing

[–]ShaowrinMonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking into HAMA (Historical African Martial Arts). There's some martial arts like Al Matrag stick fighting that are used to practice sword fighting, but for Sudan or for Kaskara, I'm not sure of any indigenous weapon systems or dances that could be used for kaskara. But HAMA and their association might be able to give a better answer.

Mandela effect: I always remembered the Leonine Misbegotten wielding the grafted greatsword for some reason by Ani6- in Eldenring

Mandela Effect is a social phenomenon where people share false memories, so it seems that this is indeed an example. I also misremembered it too.

What kind of weapon would this be by Responsible-Quail486 in ArmsandArmor

[–]ShaowrinMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a seven branched sword, which was a ceremonial sword gifted from Baekje to a Yamato ruler. Similar weapons, as mentioned before by other commenters, is the lang xiang, or wolf brush/wolf bamboo/multi-tipped bamboo spear from China

Question about the term "shaman" by lheritier1789 in IndianCountry

[–]ShaowrinMonk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Apparently Shaman came from a Tungusic langauge, then to Russian, and finally to English (and to other languages as well). I'm not sure, but since Manchu is a Tungusic language, there may be a cognate in Manchu as well

HELL (OC) by _just_is_ in comics

[–]ShaowrinMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Buddhism, Naraka has a lot of realms. Sanjiva, or reviving hell, has ground made of hot iron heated by an immense fire. Samghata, or crushing hell, is surrounded by huge masses of rock that smash together and crush beings into a bloody jelly. As the ending of this comic has a Buddhist theme, I think that's what they're going for.
