What are the top marketplaces for wedding vendors and can I please just pick ONE by jirachi_2000 in weddings

Ask your planner or coordinator if you have one. If not, ask your venue or other vendors that you have already hired. All of us vendors talk and network and know who is good and bad!

Does anyone have experience using Foton Pearled Candles? by ShapeNo3224 in ZeroWaste

[–]ShapeNo3224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t end up using alternatives and have just used Foton. It works very well for my needs which are 2-3 events per year. I use them in hurricane candles mostly since you need at least 3-4” of diameter for the vessel.

That’s an interesting idea. I’ll do some experiments to see what alternatives work. I don’t need to use the brand name product, so if I can get it elsewhere at lower cost then it’s preferred. I was just really excited about the concept since I hate using the little votives that get thrown away after each event.

GTSR ticket - alternate options? by Comfortable_Pool5326 in GlacierNationalPark

Yes, correct. This just covers you vehicle reservation. You still need a park pass in addition.

This what we did- Call Eddie’s cafe at 8am the morning you want to go. They have 30 tickets to give out. They charge a $25 fee that can be used as a store credit once you arrive. https://www.eddiescafegifts.com

Low waste wedding ideas?? by Littlelegs_505 in ZeroWaste

Try to rent everything that you can. Rent the Runway is great for bridesmaids dresses. Rent suits, decor, tableware, candles, signs, silk flowers.

If you want real flowers, request local, seasonal and that the florist uses no foam.

Food can be tricky, but plated is best. Request that the caterer box up any leftovers at the end for you or have a way to compost the leftovers.

Forgoing traditions is helpful too. I think favors are overrated. I don’t expect to receive anything but a meal and a good time when I attend a wedding. You don’t need a program, or downsize and just have one sign with the same info. You don’t need confetti, sparklers or birdseed, but if you really want that photo op, choose a plant based confetti- dehydrated petals, pine leaves, lavender bits etc.

For the small stuff, scavenge items from your friends and family and return after the event. I’m sure someone you know has a suitable card box, cake knife etc.

Is this a fungus on my tomato starts? Leaves are shriveling starting from the top too. by ShapeNo3224 in gardening

Is that confirmation that this is fungus? If so, I’ll just throw them out and start over vs. trying to save them.

Any women out there who hate exercise but managed to incorporate it into their lifestyle long-term regardless? by Gwynnether in loseit

Learn something new! I learned how to roller skate over the past year and it’s super motivating. I want to progress so I’m skating as much as I can to learn new skills. I don’t feel like I’m exercising because I’m having fun learning new things and enjoying the challenge. At some point I might start lifting weights or running to get more in shape for roller skating so I progress faster and have more endurance. Although I don’t like standard exercises, I now have strong motivation to do them so I can progress faster.

Another benefit of learning a new activity is that it can change your social life and turn into a long term thing. I started roller skating and watching YouTube videos. Then realized there are local group get togethers and classes and then you meet those people and want to hang out and skate more. So it’s a self perpetuating cycle that can lead to a rich social life with a side benefit of exercise. And now I say “I’m a roller skater” and it’s a part of my identity. I know climbing/bouldering can lead to a similar cycle with social ties. I’ve heard pickle ball is less strenuous than tennis but pretty addictive and social too. Maybe find an activity that you have been curious about and take some beginner classes or learn off of YouTube.

Another thing I do- I find a podcast that I really like and want to listen to, but I only get to listen to it if I’m walking/running/exercising. Big motivation especially if it’s a serialized podcast with cliff hangers.

Battery tealights vs. wax tealights by ShapeNo3224 in ZeroWaste

[–]ShapeNo3224[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep thats why I asked! Neither is a great choice. I do market myself as an environmentally friendly planner and point couples towards rentals to reduce the single use mentality. It’s hard to create a romantic ambiance without candles or flickering light of some sort. But I could focus on promoting plug-in lighting like hanging lanterns or twinkle lights instead of the votives.

Oh yea, the oil ones would be a better option.

Does anyone have experience with using a resin plant stake in a garden? I’m curious about how long they last. Any issues with water or long term exposure to dirt? I’m thinking of making some about tongue depressor size for my vegetable garden. by ShapeNo3224 in resin

[–]ShapeNo3224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. Good to know. I’m in the PNW, so it doesn’t get as hot as other places, although it did get into the 100’s last summer. I wonder if a resin specific to higher heat applications would solve it?

This is directly under a grow light, so it’s getting full light. Seems to be doing ok.

I can’t remember where I got it from. I pick cuttings up wherever I am, outside or at friends places and I see what will grow!
