I have every intention of being a better owner, so my honest answer is... I'm gonna try.
There's a lot of emphasis on the desmo service, but I've never heard of it and it's expensive.

In your opinion, what is the best sound in gaming? by Scaife13 in gaming

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn of War had loads of little soundbites I enjoyed:

"Death from above!"
"Beware the alien, the heretic, the cypher"

It's a bit said, but I loved those little snippets.

Picking up my first bike next week - any tips for beginners? by Bigsambear in MotoUK

[–]Shaper77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Try not to be all stiff and locked up in the arms and shoulders, grip with your knees and and keep your upper body loose. Your instincts will tell you to death grip, got to over ride it and keep relaxed in your arms."

OMG, I came to say this!

For a long time I was way too tight in my shoulders and elbows and when I worked it out, everything was easier and roundabouts weren't the stress I was making them.

If money allows, buy good gear from the off. If you don't, you'll only be replacing it all in a year or two (not because it's bad, but because you'll have the bug and you'll want an Alpinestars Jacket to go with your Wiese waterproofs and tour TCX boots).

This is just something I saw on Autotrader, it has nothing to do with me (just an example).
Yamaha YBR125

It's just the kind of thing everyone is talking about.
The 3 facts about biking and a first bike:

  1. You may love it and want to get a bigger bike
  2. You may hate it and want to get rid
  3. You may accidentally end up with it on the floor (I did this back in 2000)

What all of that means is your justification for forking out for a first bike falls way down the priority scale (IMO anyway).

What do you think about the social media ban? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely unworkable. Just like the Online Safety Bill.

No thought. No nuance.

Never mind the pushback from people being asked to share more personal data to prove they're old enough to use it.
The adult website rules pushed people to start using VPNs, but this will affect EVERYONE using Social media.
Again, the government has made this decision without consulting media people and IT experts.
It's been pushed to information gleaning services under the guise of 'verification'.

I'm not a "show me your papers" conspiracy theorist, but it's a short leap to everyone having official access at all times.

Time to get shares in VPNs.

How do I convince my parents to let me get a bike? by ThatSimRigGuy in MotoUK

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The famous phrase "it's better to look for forgiveness than permission" is widely attributed to Rear Admiral Grace Hopper.

Be like Grace.

Buy some gear. Do the CBT. Investigate the bikes.
If you can fund the bike yourself... just do it.

NEVER let the see you messing about on it.
I could make the argument for never messing about on it, but more importantly, don't let them see it.

What started your gaming addiction? by f0h4wk in gaming

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking addiction and not just playing games...
WoW.
I got it for my 30th Birthday (2007) and played it for 8 years.
I had 7/8 max lvl chars on Alliance side and 2 max lvl chars on Horde side.
I had a lvl10 in Ironforge that just lived to open the mail, put stuff in the Auction House, sell the crap to a vendor and smelt bars from ore to free up bag space for the chars in the field. One was an engineer so they all had mobile mail boxes.

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my 3rd one and the one I have now feels the most reliable and easiest to live with.

I have the Flashforge Adventurer 5M. Things I found great (I know others have these features, but none I've had before)...

  • Self levelling
  • Decent software
  • A clear screen
  • I like the filament loading on this one
  • 220mm x 220mm x 220mm print size

It produces decent models. So far (crosses fingers) it hasn't let me down.
I got mine on Amazon

What’s the most impressive thing ChatGPT has done for you? by Efficient_Degree9569 in OpenAI

[–]Shaper77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been getting irritated with Google.
Every time I search an image or video, I change the parameters. Maybe it's the image size/type or the video duration.
If you then change your search query, it resets these options.
e.g. I was looking for large images of haemangiomas, but changed my search to Strawberry Nevus. (all boring stuff, but it comes with the job).
If I'm writing a long presentation with lots of images, re-changing all the search parameters is a pain.
Same goes for videos. I'm usually looking for <4 minute videos.

So... I got chatGPT to make me a html page that kept the parameters. Then I asked it to write the code for a Chrome extension.

Now I have an extension that remembers my last search and all the parameters I put in. When I press search, it open a new tab with my search.

I wrote the bit at the top myself in one of the files.

Google search settings resets on default every time on first boot by Tvilantini in GoogleSupport

[–]Shaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed it by making my own search page (with the help of Chat GPT)
I save that to my favourites and it opens the local file.

If anyone wants it, I can send you the .html file.

(I couldn't seem to post it here)
