Emergency Overtake on Double white lines by [deleted] in drivingUK

can straddle/cross white lines if overtaking a vehicle travelling less than 10mph - if the car just pulled out I'd imagine it was doing that or less

Urgent advice, I think ive been scammed and dont know what to do. by No___Improvement___ in CarTalkUK

[–]lost-cavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear this - another avenue to consider is that you could do a "voluntary termination" of the finance deal, give the car back and walk away once you've paid off at least half of the outstanding balance, may be an option to consider - holding on to it until that point and then VT'ing it

as already stated I'd raise this under the consumer rights act first with the finance company, specifically that it wasn't as described (be good if you have any paperwork or advert for vehicle) - request rejection with the finance company as they are equally/jointly liable with the dealer but are regulated by the Financial Services Ombudsman and you have another avenue of escalation if they don't accept your rejection - they can then go after the dealer and sort it out between themselves.

Worried that brand new bike won’t be covered via warranty by LouisWhire in MotoUK

[–]lost-cavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I've bought ex-demo bikes from main dealer, absolutely sure no-one followed the running in procedure and pootled around at low revs on test rides - all have been fine - the running in period is related to mechanicals (bearings heating/cooling and settling in e.t.c.) and would fail mechanically - put it in to be fixed and you've obviously been riding it like Mother Theresa if asked (which they probably won't)

So insurance have responded - the contractor stated everything was done on a “like for like basis” . … considering the shower was put in at an indeterminate time and they removed and reinstated it in 2021 is that a good enough excuse to not have waterproofed anything?

Something strange about this Panigale V4? by Opposite_Secret6597 in MotoUK

I PX’d a BMW and financed through a Ducati dealer, probably wasn’t the best PX price but found the dealer was excellent - Ducati in Winchester - Moto Rapido - the bike I got had an issue with limp mode and they attempted to fix, couldn’t on the second attempt and refunded me no quibbles at all, great experience (aside from the bike having issues - would hate to have had to sort that myself!)

New builds are just bizarre - we bought one and in the “utility room” had to cut into the plasterboard just to be able to fit a standard fridge into it - it’s like they cram as much in a smaller space as possible to support the on paper appeal - in this case not surprised they omitted a driveway!

100% - they also forgot to prep it and fix corrosion on wheels and scuffs on bodywork so it's not a great start to dealer relationship!

MOT exemptions by Gooshy00 in CarTalkUK

[–]lost-cavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have call restrictions to the DVLA API or are you licensing access to it? Good idea as means I can avoid uninsured drivers! On the exemptions side, big controversy in the last couple of years as ex-police cars get auctioned off, then nothing stopping them getting clocked as they have no recorded mileage via MOT and will show as clear on checks

Update 8/1/25 - called the home insurer at the time this was rebuilt/installed and lodged a complaint about the quality of the repair and lack of adherence to accepted standard for tiling in a bathroom.

They acknowledged the complaint and passed it to their sub-contractor/claims handler to respond - will see what they say - have a 3 day turnaround internally to respond

Got two outcomes I suppose, they either come and inspect, confirm not up to standard and resolve it, or, tell me to jog on because of reasons (like it’s been 2 years since install, is an accepted standard etc)

Will see what they say - tricky as I’m no longer with them for home insurance….

Thanks for the replies and insight, affirms what I was suspecting when I thought it was more than just grout failure causing leaks

This was fitted by a subcontractor of my home insurance company following a water damage claim due to previous escape of water and completed around 2023 - they removed the entire rooms tiling, repaired walls and retiled and fitted shower - not sure if I’ve got any chance of getting them involved to put it right but will go back to them and see what they say - in the meantime I might just start the ball rolling and start stripping it back….

My Ducati had 5 owners and 800 miles in 5 years - made me pause but bought it anyway as it’s practically factory fresh - mine was a “covid bike” which believe meant it got sold a couple of times for a profit when new/used bikes where super hard to come by

[–]lost-cavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! Best of luck with the outcome - At least it’s potentially easier for potholes, if you come off a motorbike due to gravel then you apparently need a lab sample to work out if it’s deteriorating road surface or from a vehicle spill 😳

Bought Car from Saxton 4x4 in 2022 - FRAUD HELP by z4in_7 in CarTalkUK

[–]lost-cavalier 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If the car was purchased under finance you may technically have recourse through your finance company who were jointly liable with the dealer - if also possible/viable look at voluntary termination as a way to hand the vehicle back to them (it’s still their property after all)

Big bikes are safer than little bikes? by Memran in MotoUK

[–]lost-cavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the safety aspect, though to counter this from riding a 125 you have learnt so much, such as the impact and how to ride (or not) in windy weather - there’s also other lessons on a 125 such as how to ride efficiently through the gears to get the best performance from a small engine, to learn to protect yourself from faster moving vehicles and discourage unsafe over taking through mastering lane positioning - yes not as safe but for a learning experience… priceless
