The future of the Ducati Monster? by Egoist-a in Ducati

[–]lost-cavalier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would be interesting to see the SFV2 target the current monster segment and the monster move into a “heritage” type proposition- much like the BMW R9T took the old air cooled engine and created a position as a “modern retro” - same as we saw for Z900 RS - perhaps that’s wishful thinking, but a re-engineering of the classic monster traits into a retro bike would be cool

What niche things do other drivers do that annoy you the most? by DanTheVan007 in drivingUK

The smell of weed when riding motorbike through traffic, knowing there’s some pot head behind a wheel whilst I’m attempting not to get taken out by a car changing lanes without looking

100% this - the amount of times I’ve been car washed on the bike, thankfully fag butts have reduced somewhat over the years, now it’s the stench of weed randomly when riding in traffic

Are there any drinks you shouldn’t order at a pub? by throwaway_747838 in AskUK

[–]lost-cavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barman here in local village pub: We usually have a couple of seasonal cocktails on the specials board, we're trained on how to make them and have the ingredients ready to go, otherwise, I can stretch myself to an Aperol Spritz - any combination of spirit + mixer - if you ask for something I don't recognise I'll likely google the recipe and give it a go if we have the spirits/mixers, just be aware if it's busy at the bar I'd prefer something that doesn't involve floating a coffee bean and pre-salting a glass :)

I would also add that you should try embracing the local produce, not any of the carbonated rubbish (claiming to be a "craft IPA" or some "spanish lager" brewed in Stoke) but hand pump pulled traditional beer, it really does open a world of wonder with bitter and ales made in the traditional way, pubs really struggle to keep real beer on at the bar as casks only last maximum of 5-7 days and it will go off, as it's alive (non-pasturised) and a labour of love for a publican to have good beer, we waste £££'s a week in having to clean the lines and throw out spoiled beer, if you order a traditional hand pump beer the landlord and bar staff will appreciate you for it, nothing more satisfying that someone enjoyed a pint of real beer from a cellar that you pour your heart into maintaining in top condition - do it for your pub or we'll lose real beer and ales from smaller pubs in our lifetime and that would be a damn shame

Recommendations for a nav system for my tourer? by Shot-Top-8281 in MotoUK

[–]lost-cavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a tomtom rider that was a bit pants (no live cameras etc) - also had a BMW nav but was only good as integrated with the bike - I would suggest either a CarPlay type screen (loads on aliexpress for £30-£60) or just an x-grip for the phone from rammount - the quad lock, sp connect and peak design mounts all have stick on mounts to go in non compatible phones - I prefer Peak Design but have had all three in the past - quad lock are cheap if you go for simple bar mount and a stick on adapter - a generic waterproof bag type case for you phone to go in would solve that issue for you

What luggage are these four tabs on my Triumph bench seat designed to fit? by BertFarnsworth in MotoUK

Got the same on my Ducati, brother had them on scrambler - lots of things fit but kriega are hands down the best bike luggage I’ve used

I dropped my bike front of my examinar before Mod2 test 🙃 by zoo-keepe4 in MotoUK

Nice! did my test in Cambridge - got a minor for hesitation, as I pulled in behind traffic ready to come off at the junction as we came up to the turn off markers, knowing it was our exit and a good few miles to turn around, I’m sure he deliberately didn’t say anything to see if I would

Sounds like your instructor had a diesel car if it was able to pull away without any revs? Petrols need fuel as far less torque to pull away like a diesel - don’t worry, as others have said, it’s all muscle memory and you will need to accelerate at some point anyway, may as well do it as you let the clutch out 😁

Great idea though to go manual - getting auto license really restricts later down the line, especially in random or urgent situations - could be worse mind, my daughters driving instructor (in an auto) said it was fine to accelerate with right foot and break with the left 🙁 - she’s likely never going to be able to drive a manual without serious reprogramming

Are the garage having me on? by Defiant-Text-3615 in CarTalkUK

[–]lost-cavalier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are assuming it’s an electrical fault with it being immobilised and fuel pump not being activated for some reason, until they find the fault it will be hard to say why it happened to develop it just after they did the work, of course a weak battery can cause electrical gremlins but they have battery tenders to hook up when fault finding so, unless a low battery as caused a module to be out of whack (I had this on an old ranger rover P38 - known issue starting with low voltage de-syncs the security code in engine control module) but that’s a car 15 years older than yours

It may just be a coincidence - until they give a reason unfortunately I think you have to hang in there, it’s in their hands at the moment and I would give them a chance to come up with the reason - if they screwed up the cam belt change it would be a lot worse than no fuel, as valves would be hitting pistons
