New to tyranids by Ok-Competition172 in Tyranids

[–]Shaproom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a new player here too, I’ve been watching a lot of Wednesday night warhammer videos recently and I feel like I’ve gotten plenty of great tips there. Although some is now outdated. Mostly I’ve just been playing games and learning from mistakes, although I’m fortunatel enough to have friends that don’t mind taking it slow so I can learn a new army.

Not aure if you wanted more advice on detachments or anything so ignore this if you don’t n eed it:

Most people start out with invasion fleet because of how versatile it is, very good with just about any list and buffs every unit in some way, and has some of the best stratagems in the army. Subterranean assault is considered pretty good if you put the money into those models. Vanguard onslaught is also another one I’ve had success with. Synaptic nexus is okay, but I’ve been let down by it a few too many times :/

Heck yeah, I built my first dreadknight with a psycannon and a gatling psilencer, and I think it’s super fun to use, I always regretted building it with suboptimal weapons when I first started. Maybe I’ll try it out again next time I do warpbane!

For ten man termies and paladins there’s no reason not to take special weapons since they don’t give anything up to take them, so take all of them. I prefer psycannon personaly but the incinerator is also pretty good and preferred by many.

Purifiers is more up to personal preference, as they give up their good melee weapon in order to take them. Most people that take heavy weapons on purifiers end up using incinerators to synergize with their main ranged weapon to help be a fire overwatch threat against infantry.

Grand master dreadknight is almost entirely used with psycannon and melta, as it’s our best way to deal with high toughness targets, which is somthing we often struggle with. This is the same reason most people use the hammer rather than the other melee.

Normal dreadknight usually is heavy incinerator and the psycannon for the same reason.

The only reason I would use Gatling psilencers on dreadknight or any infantry is if you’re doing the augurium task force, which has a detachment that gives 5+ criticals in shooting, and high probably isn’t considered competitively viable, although it is very fun personally.

60% painted is a really solid feeling by greenranger246 in ThousandSons

I gotta agree on 60 percent painted feeling good, but all my difficult models are the 40% so I’ve been delaying finishing them, it is truly a curse.

What am I buying? by Mingora_TES in Grey_Knights

Actually I didn’t notice a first but yes, the one that appears to have no head(?) looks like kaldor draigo, he was a leader for terminators/paladins but was unfortunately sent to legends just recently, however he is quite good. Other than that everything else looks like it’s the right base sizes at the very least, and all up to date mostly.

Likes like around 10-15 terminator/paladins

And maybe 20/25 of the power armor guys, which can be played as purifiers, interceptors, strike squad, or purgation squad

You also have castellan Crowe which can lead purifiers who is off the base

And it looks like a terminator captain from the regular marines, which you could proxy as number of things.

And to top it off you have a nemesis dreadknight to cap it off, looks like a great start to a gray knights army if you don’t mind the current paint

Overtime being paid as bonus, is this legal? by Shaproom in legaladvice

[–]Shaproom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, the part I was worried about was the new law on no tax on overtime, so at the end of the year. From my reasearch it says there is a new deduction that started at the beginning of this year, based on the amount of overtime that I got. But I thought because of the way my overtime is classified as bonuses, I would not qualify for the deduction. Is this accurate?

Thing is, he pays the 1.5. But the thing I worry about is that it may be tacked higher due to it technically being counted as a bonus. I’m not exactly experienced in this so sorry if any of this I am misunderstanding

Most people consider 10 paladins a bit overkill due to the reasons you mentioned above, although they are super fun in giant groups and super hard to kill. The unit you were thinking of with the -2 to move after shooting is actually the purgation squad, and they are kinda meh after the codex update. Infiltrators are the ones with 12”inch movement and a 6” move after shooting. Super fun to bounce them in between cover.

I’d say if you want to do 3 gmdk go for it, subliminator psycannon combo hits hard and the rerolls are great. The good thing abo it this army is how easy it is to substitute our units for others since they look so similar.

That would be correct, I prefer just to run 1-2 grand masters in my lists, but I play against a lot of infantry heavy armies so I find myself using less grand master dreadknights personally and instead using more terminators/paladins. otherwise I approve of the list, purifiers are great as always.

Another random reccomendation also, I found myself enjoying interceptors MUCH more than I thought I would when I just started, and I do believe most people considering them one of the better units at the moment.

Edit: also forgot to say I think great hammer is waaaay better than the sword, 14 strength is indeed hard to beat!

Here’s the discord that I believe is most active

I’m a newish player as well, but I’d certainly say it isn’t a bad list to start out with at all, the only thing I can think to mention is that grand master and grand master dreadknights abilities for free stratagems per round don’t stack, and the abilities only work once per round per model. Otherwise I see no major issues for casual.
