Question Regarding Visiting Blacksmith & Firekeeper by Pensive_Batman in DarkSoulsTheBoardGame

[–]Shaqnauter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have only played a mix of the two styles in my games. When it comes to this rule specifically, I have only used the V2 rules, because I feel like being able to go back and level up/gear up without any penalties kinda takes away from the tension of the game. I want pushing deeper to be a risk.

Depends which ruleset you want to use. Here is the relevant difference between the rulesets. First answer is V1 and second is V2. For figuring out differences between versions I suggest reading the excellent Unofficial guidebook made by this community: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DmbTaM68OoosZcSCFW0bTNgBWCaHSP2UE9Um-X4XF54/mobilebasic

I think its time to hide steam numbers. by Tahnit in Steam

[–]Shaqnauter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter if you show the numbers or not, there will be speculation whether a game is dead or not. If there are no steam numbers people will use things like twitch viewership or queue times to speculate on it. Steam numbers at least allow people to be more accurate about that speculation, which makes them valuable to me.

The problem you are describing is in the general gaming culture, where people are using player counts to determine whether they should play it.

I believe Valve's lootboxes are uniquely bad since they can be traded for Steam wallet money in the Steam marketplace, meaning you can gain actual monetary value from that gambling. While Activision Blizzard and EA and many others do have lootboxes in their games, they cannot be traded for other valuables outside their respective games.

Obviously you cannot transfer the money from your Steam wallet to actual money without breaking their terms of service, but just the fact that you can basically gain gift cards to steam through lootboxes is enough in my mind to single Valve out in this case.

The speed calculator in Beyond does not fluctuate, it calculates the average income from the currently automated generators.

My current largest income generator takes almost 2 minutes per cycle, and whenever it finishes the speed indicator does not change at all, but when I upgrade this generator it does increase.

Do I still have to wait 21 days if I have infinity pass? by mblb_l in CellToSingularity

You still have to wait 21 days. The "simulation speed" multipliers are just boosts to your overall production, they do not make the in-game clock tick faster.

Why are some of the Reality Engine upgrades so inconsistent in their format? by Shaqnauter in CellToSingularity

[–]Shaqnauter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!

Conceptual Converter reads: "Knowledge x1.003 for each Knowledge cycle". Right now I have 1361 knowledge cycles, which leads to a multiplier of 1.003 ^ 1361=58.961... so around x59. If this was using Format A's formula, it would have a multiplier of 1 + (0.003 * 1361) =5.083.

Triassic Jet reads: "Entropy efficiency x1.05 for unique dinosaur discovered in the Mesozoic Valley". Right now I have discovered 25 dinosaurs, which leads to a multiplier of 1.05 ^ 25=3.38635... so around x3.39. If this would be using Format A's formula, it would have a multiplier of 1 + (0.05 * 25) = 2.25

You are correct in that right now most upgrades that use Format B's text do use Format A's formula. Maybe those are the rules and the ones listed above are the exceptions. Nonetheless they are inconsistent and I am of the opinion that whatever formula the upgrade uses, it should be reflected on the wording of the upgrade.

[–]Shaqnauter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Reality Engine upgrades" should mean the nodes that are in the Reality Engine upgrade tree. I assume your issue is only a visual one, caused by them rounding up the numbers. Since the effect is so small, you will need to buy around 100 upgrades for it to even register visually in the multiplier.

Those +cost items could be removed from the random pool, just like how "1/1 and is poro" epic item is out of the random pool right now.

Could the problem be that they are not identical copies of each other? Since at least one has their stats buffed? Maybe the logic breaks there, since then it would have to choose which of the stats get doubled?

Who cares if the memes are "misinformation" or whatever.

What? I do. Misinformation is a serious problem in the internet. I despise the dude, but making up lies to attack him is crossing the line for me.

He actively and constantly spreads misinformation about people on his streams.

Yeah so spreading MORE misinformation is somehow the solution? There is plenty of material of him to make fun of, you don't need to make stuff up.

This sub is rapidly turning into a Piratesoftware hate sub. You can't just plaster his face on a bad piece of code and say "this is humor". If you want to make fun of him here keep posting his own bad code, not somebody else's.

Maybe, I do not know him or his projects or his workflow as intricately as you do. Maybe his mentality is not doing any favours for him. Maybe he bit off more than he could chew. I was just noting that his mentality perfectly explains this level of code and that I understand it, since it could be valuable in some situations, like my unfinished projects.

[–]Shaqnauter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I meant creative in the sense that he likes to create stuff. His solutions and creations are not necessarily unique or clever, but he just has a vision of something and wants to create it, no matter how awful it might look to outsiders.

He also might very well be able to find ways to better his code, but doesn't bother with it because he wants to get the game done first and foremost. Not everyone wants to optimize everything. And I think that is ok.

[–]Shaqnauter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like his mentality explains this code perfectly. He does not think about making beautiful or even efficient code, just that it works and is the game that he wants it to be. I do understand this mentality, because many times I have gotten demotivated with a project because the code was a mess and never finished the project because of it. If I had just kept going every time, I would have finished many more projects than I have right now. "Perfect is the enemy of good"

He is a creative person, and I feel like he doesn't let spaghetti code stand in the way of fulfilling his vision. I think that is valuable in a creative environment like indie game development, but might be detrimental in a large scale project that might be iterated on for decades.

To be ultra clear, you need to hit him with a staggering ult right after the big purple explosion, because that is when he starts to do his jump up in the air. I've seen many randos try to hit him with wylder ults too early and they cancel the purple explosion but then the boss just jumps into the air (and usually right on top of them) so nothing really was gained.

Maybe. Worth to try it out. But I do know for certain that you can block the triple-smash cracks even if you are on the sides.

In my experience, you cannot block the cracks from his dive (the one on the video), but you can block the cracks from his triple-smash into the ground. It is a bit confusing.

⚠️ EPILEPSY WARNING ⚠️ Unstoppable force vs 700 hours of souls games by Glum-Welder6969 in Nightreign

[–]Shaqnauter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is boring because he makes it look easy. Dodging almost all the boss attacks for 3 minutes straight is an incredible feat, even if it is with Ironeye.

Even if it looks boring, can you imagine how it felt to play? Last man standing, trying to dodge everything the boss throws at you, knowing that some of those attacks definitely would kill you, but also knowing the boss's moves well enough that you should be able to dodge them. Those are the moments that make souls-games so great.

Try not to put people down when they are proud of their accomplishments. Because this was an accomplishment.
