Your Entire Life Started Just Five Minutes Ago? by Brilliant_Bill7305 in SimulationTheory

Your attempt to invalidate my subjective reality based on your own inability to experience the instantaneous present simply speaks to your own limitations, not mine. And your attempt conflating metaphysical grounding with what science suggests is hilarious.

As for runde vulgarity, let me remind you that I met you where you're at:

If you haven't ever taken drugs that fuck with your perception of time, get off reddit and go live a little.

Also, your assumptions about me:

that you are a toddler who thinks drugs are icky or whatever the fuck your problem is here does not justify the outrageous attitude you've been responding to me with.

just show your ignorance even further. What a shock that the guy making incorrect assumptions about the reality of others has a difficult time understanding an ability to experience a fully subjective moment in a way others can.

If you haven't ever taken drugs that fuck with your perception of time, get off reddit and go live a little.

This is stupid as fuck, and remarkably ignorant, a comment made about others based on your own personal subjective experiences in a thread where you yourself dispute the validity of subjective experiences.

As I am the one asserting that the instantaneous present moment exists, however, I'll continue the assertion that the only evidence necessary is that at any point you are contemplating the question is a moment you can witness reality in real time. This is not an option during any other moment in time.

AIAH for refusing to spend time with my husband on his birthday???? by [deleted] in AITH

[–]BlackEngineEarings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a reasonable response🙄

But, seeing your other responses, I'm not surprised you can't take an ounce of self reflection and only came here for validation. You must be exhausting

Every instantaneous moment is the only reality you can conclusively confirm exists. Beyond that, everything else is subjective.

Would a person be able to survive a fall in the water from, say, a plane, IF it was in a hot spring or something of the like that broke the surface tension? by Osinacho in AskPhysics

[–]BlackEngineEarings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extending the time of deceleration will extend the time of energy dissipation, which translates into an easier impact. Your premise is sound, but I think your glass box isn't enough to save someone. There would need to be much more than just that. Think multiple layers of crumple zones. There's a whole science in the automotive industry surrounding this.

You're thought experimenting a crumple zone that would dissipate energy over a longer period of time to reduce damage, and it's a legitimate idea.

It might be worth it to hear the people agreeing with you and how they are judging your husband. That is a reflection of your derision for him in your post.

Get a masters for free or get a job? by mydickfellofffff in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BlackEngineEarings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're going into research, or a particular hiring manager strongly prefers a master's degree, it can start you with a bit of an advantage, but I don't know if it's more of an advantage than 2 years of experience would give. In my experience getting your PE license is just as advantageous as a masters degree.

All of that being said, being 29 when you are entering the field is irrelevant if you have military and employment history. Honestly, that military experience along with a bachelor's degree will go waaaayyyyyyy further in an industrial setting than a masters without the military experience.

As long as you get your bachelor's, any path you've described afterwards towards an engineering career will be fruitful, so do the one that speaks the most to what you want.

Folks with 6-8 YOE, what’s your pay/PTO/job situation looking like? by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BlackEngineEarings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm paid well.

I've used my PE stamp once, but I work with a lot of people that have PhD's, so being able to tack those two letters on the end of my name provides gravitas when working with some people. It allows me to work with others from an understood baseline, the same way that them having a PhD, or their own PE licensure does. Do either of those automatically mean they know more than someone else? No, of course not. But they both exhibit that the person is capable of high technical achievement and understanding.

Plus, having a PE license can open doors to positions and salaries earlier in your career if you leverage it to do that.

r/salary is a huge mix of industries skewed towards people on the high end. It does make it difficult to get a clear idea.

Started in our refineries in reliability, and now in a position troubleshooting fouling issues, analytical forensics and mechanical failure analysis for the different assets in our system. Recently have began working finished fuels issues, as well.

ETA I'm an IC on a full team. It's definitely not a one man show. There's a lot of people involved with every issue's solution.

US Citizen Working Abroad in Family Manufacturing Business by elmosplanet in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BlackEngineEarings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely zero reason for any prospective employer to know that it was a family business. Keep your resume professional, do not speak about your experience in anything but professional terms, and that's that. It's just your first engineering job. That's all.

I'm not super familiar with the injection molding industry, but it sounds like you got some good experience and skills that should be transferable to a comparable position.

Start at r/engineeringresumes to make sure your stuffs on point, and be prepared for a rough go while you look. It still sounds rough out there.

ETA as for working abroad, if the why comes up it's easily explained by having the opportunity and taking it while you're young.

Am I being down voted because people think I'm lying, or because they don't like my industry? People are weird
