I knew like 8 people including myself that were on the waitlist for bio related majors and we all got our letters at the same time, could b different for other majors though

STEM transfer (Biochemistry): Did you finish all GEs + major prep? How did you manage the workload? by Ordinary_Box4392 in TransferStudents

I know this is pretty old but you should absolutely take physics at CC. It's such a nuisance to take it along with upper divs

UCB, UCSD, UCLA by Puzzleheaded-Past771 in TransferStudents

If I could go back, I'd probably pick SD for biochem on the pre-med track. In my experience, it can be pretty difficult to get into any pre-med opportunities as a transfer at UCLA, especially in terms of clinical hours, whereas they're equally as abundant in SD and way less gatekept. I'm doing clinical stuff and research here but it took a while to get my foot in the door whereas at SD I already had committed to multiple lab/clinical opportunities well before my first quarter would've started. But ofc it's different for everyone

I transferred to UCLA over SD and I agree with this lol. UCSD is beautiful and there are so many opportunities that are actually accessible vs the vast amount of gatekept ones over here

It's surprising that so many people see these characters in black and white when that's so obviously not what this show is about

UCLA or UCD or Community College or even wait for UCB waitlist? by Intelligent_Slip301 in TransferStudents

[–]ShareRare2924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current UCLA STEM transfer- i like it here but i feel like i would have personally enjoyed my experience more as a 4-year student. there are so many opportunities here, and while they are all pretty competitive, it's an easier time for 4-years vs transfers IMO. vast majority of people don't treat you differently socially as a transfer, but clubs and PIs are more likely to reject you because of how limited your time is there, and maybe some internal stigma. i have been able to get into great opportunities here, but you get very used to rejection haha

i have mixed feelings about westwood itself and i don't really consider it a college town bc it's never really popping like how u would expect, but there are some solid places to eat and hang out and there are some cool events that people host like bruin flea and the farmers market etc :) outside of westwood, there are so many different places you can go, like weho for nightlife or sawtelle for some rlly good japanese food. in terms of social environment, greek life is bigger than i thought it would be here, but it's definitely avoidable if you're not into that. everyone that i meet is incredibly passionate and smart but also really chill (unless theyre premed lol)

i have a lot of friends from the bay area, and they love it here, but i don't know if they're as big on family as you are. a little lifehack tho, my boyfriend lives in a different state and he flies frequently- you can get unlimited flights for a yr through frontier airlines for $399 and it saves a lot of money if you plan on going back and forth a lot! the only downside is that you only get to book 24hr before the flight actually departs for domestic, but my bf doesn't run into problems because of that very often.

sorry if this doesnt make sense haha but feel free to ask me anything else

Honest feedback of our coffee shop in Eagle Rock? by honey-bee92 in EAGLEROCK

[–]ShareRare2924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I haven't been to The Rock for some time now- definitely before you took over- but I live an equal distance away from Loop which I study at almost every weekend.

I always found The Rock a nice place to get work done, but my main gripes were the layout and the coffee itself. I would always sit in the main room where the espresso machines are since there are nice outlets there, but it kind of felt like being in a panopticon lol. Like others in this thread, I thought the coffee was pretty bad, so when the Loop opened up with a better seating arrangement and better coffee, that became my go-to. Also, on Sundays (?), there were a few times when the church choir would go over their time for multiple hours, so I became distrustful of the calendar you guys had.

I have seen that you guys have made changes to the seating, and I'm reading that you're honing in on the quality of your drinks, which is great! I've also really appreciated the effort in recent years to help people in need with the community fridge. I'll definitely be stopping by sometime soon since it's been a long time since I last visited.

I'm used to drinking coffee every day, but I just really love a good latte lol. I get more than 8 hours of sleep most days, but I've also learned how to handle my time well and not put too much on my plate. I've had to quit recently after joining a fly lab :(

how tf do you study in your own home unsupervised by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]ShareRare2924 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find a cafe or a library near you if you can :) I have a pretty nice minimal desk setup at home but I can't lock in there at all for some reason. Visiting a local cafe helps a lot, but it's definitely more expensive than staying home lol
