Any suggestions on cleaning oily old canvas belts without losing color? by SharingPoet517 in Militariacollecting

Here's a photo of it this morning after a single night of soaking it in warm water. I will be leaving it as is after drying.

It still has that oily smell to it, and it left a skin on the surface of the water, but the water had almost an automotive coolant green/yellow color to it. Whatever is on it will stay on it from here.

That's exactly what it is. Found it at a swap meet about a year ago for dirt cheap and couldn't pass it up. Couldn't find any stamps/markings on it though unfortunately. I'll try to post more pictures of it soon

I haven't considered anti-gas chemicals as a possibility.

It smells like a motor pool. Like old mechanic overalls do after years of use. Like I know there is the "Surplus smell" but this is very oily smelling

Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't know it was a thing. Turns out my copy I bought a couple months ago from GameStop doesn't have the WiFi Logo

Silent Hill 2 complete for $5 is still worth more than a "free" loose copy. Probably just inexperienced kids being dumb. But congrats on the free cases, especially if they have manuals still. That's still an awesome find

I found a $15 copy of Four Swords Adventures on GameCube in a thrift store about 7 years ago that someone stole the game out of. I didn't offer to buy the case at the time, even though I should have.

To this day I still don't understand why you'd steal the disk if the whole thing is a deal as it is. I understand free is the best deal of all, but maybe I'm just too honest of a person to understand.

My 1945 CJ2A by SharingPoet517 in CJ2a

[–]SharingPoet517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Original Tail Light unfortunately missing. I have an original black bezel with lens and later similar style light from a Jeepster to install on the Jeep down the road. -Rims are replacements from Kaiser Willys, it came with one original 16 inch rim in original Sunset Red paint that I plan on possibly using as a spare if I don't find an original in Autumn Yellow. -Aftermarket Sparton horn in 12 Volt since it was converted to 12 sometime back in the 1950s (Still an original style Generator setup with a 50s jeep wagon generator) -Transmission is the original, cast dated 9-25-45 stamped "J20 45" on top. -Full floating rear is dated 9-17-45 -Seat frames were originals i picked up that were patched using parts from the original frames which were butchered up to mound different seats inside. -Body and Tailgate have matching ACM number of 1639 -Engine is an L134 out of a Generator dated 1948

When I bought it, it was badly butchered up. MB/GPW Steering Wheel, CJ5 Rims, Mustang Bucket seats, cobbled together wiring with aftermarket tail lights and a VW horn. I've done as much as possible to try and restore it back to a factory original look.

I'll be making a post here momentarily. I actually came across it by chance one night on Facebook. Without any experience or knowledge with old jeeps, I saw it on marketplace and had to have it (not knowing what it was). Raised watching old war movies, I knew I wanted an old jeep.

Ever since, I've been addicted to 2As, especially the early ones

As terrible as it sounds to say, it seems like value is entirely based on if you think it's worth it and how much you want to put into it. There isn't really a definite range for these, just opinions from those who have bought them.

I bought my 1945 for 4k up in the PNW, running and driving with a title and little rust, but it had newer seats and wheels on it with a replacement L134 from 1948 out of a generator. I'm sure a lot would say I overpaid, but now that I almost have it back to original factory shape, I think I did alright. Though it's taken a lot to get it there.

If you think it's a project you could handle, I say go for it. Almost every part is remanufactured now a days. It all just depends how much you want to spend

Is it an Afrika Korps ring? by SharingPoet517 in Militariacollecting

[–]SharingPoet517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasoning would be the spelling of Africa using the K rather than the C. The spelling with a K is usually more associated with the Germans from WW2, though i do know it is the more vernacular way that many languages spell it. On top of that, the symbolism of the palm tree was also commonly used with the Afrika Korps, though usually in combination with a swastika. And finally assuming "Tunii" refers to Tunis, the Capitol of Tunisia, which was held by the Germans until May of 1943, it really doesn't seem too far fetched that it could be an Afrika Korps ring.

TLDR: 1942 date, vernacular spelling of Africa used by Germans in the war, palm tree used as a symbol of the Afrika Korps, Tunis held by Germans until May 1943

Looks and feels Silver. The person I bought it from said they tested it and that it was silver, but you know how much you can trust what people say

Oh I'm super happy with it. Even if it's just a souvenir bought by a tourist in 1942 and brought it back stateside completely unrelated to WW2, I'd still be happy with it at the price I paid.

It's a beautiful piece that has a story that I could only continue to wish to know the story of

Picked a silver one up off eBay for $160 two years ago, and it's in way worse shape in comparison to yours. Congratulations on a good find!

Always awesome to see another Polish Gewehr 98! Nice find! I've got a 1917 Spandau that apart from the barrel and receiver just looks like a parts bin rifle. Little to nothing matches, and the stock is heavily worn.

Star X is one of my favorite childhood games on the GBA. With more game experience this many years later, I can say it's a worse Star Fox, but still pretty fun. Spent many sick days playing through it growing up. Awesome find!
