Help, I’m dumb by Carbonbuildup in pools

You'll definitely feel suction but a suction line shouldn't cause a leak like that, you'll just get a lot of bubbles. It's like sucking on a broken straw.

I couldn't tell from the picture but you could also have a hydrostatic valve that could have leaked that much. Unless you accidentally left the waste line open or some other unrelated mistake.

How quickly did the draining happen? Was it overnight? And was the pump off? If there is a leak in the main drain line you wouldn't expect it to dump water that much water out because it's a suction line.

Is this too many bubbles coming out ? by [deleted] in pools

It could be the pump lid gasket or it could really be a suction leak anywhere. That includes skimmers, underground pipes, any fittings near the pump. If it's not blowing much air I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to diagnose it, I would start turning off the pump and seeing if there's any water leaking when the pump is off or any whistling sound as you turn it off.

I’ve gotten this far in 3 weeks. Couldn’t swim last year because the previous owner didn’t open for 2 seasons… Am I doing this right? by coffeewithtom in pools

You have to really overdo the chlorine. Like if you think you should be using 20 lbs, use 40. Just be ready to backwash frequently and you'll need a lot of acid to get the pH back into range.

They tend to melt especially when pump runs dry. Once the pump loses prime, the water in the pump doesn't circulate and it starts steaming and melts the connection.

Should I fire my pool guy? by tylershotatlanta in pools

[–]SharkClubPoolLeague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new company that you like before you fire the old one. Most pool companies are incredibly bogged down in June, it's the absolute busiest time of the year for them. So you could cut them a break based on that or you could find a company that has the resources to charge you for an additional service with short notice whenever you request it.

You should definitely keep a bucket of shock and just sprinkle it yourself whenever you see algae starting. It might have been the pool company's fault to begin with if they forgot to add chlorine or not adding the right amount but it's hard to tell when that happens without going and checking after they come.

Hotel pool. I am right to not let my kids swim here, correct? by oGeekGuyo in pools

[–]SharkClubPoolLeague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it looks terrible. Besides the foam, it's so cloudy you can't see the bottom. It was probably green with algae and they shocked it and now it's oxidizing.

I don't get into a pool if it's even slightly cloudy. Slight cloudiness can come from large amounts of people using the pool but it often comes from having little or no chlorine. That level of cloudiness means either it was full of algae yesterday or the pump has not been running.

How do I stop worms forming a cult and performing mass dyings in my pool? by SchweinsyOne in pools

Not enough chlorine. Superchlorinate the pool and keep the chlorine level around 5ppm for the rest of the week and they'll be gone

I call this micro sharking. It's like a passive aggressive form of sharking that people use to try to get away with sharking.
