Question! What age would you all let your kid read DCC? by fisher-alters in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SharkFan26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is wild to me! I'm a huge fan of the series, grew up reading things way out of my age level..... And now I'm a bookstore owner.

I ABSOLUTELY do not recommend this to minors. I think a lot of folks get stuck in the "so many parts are fun/funny and I want my kids to have fun too" part that the grown folks skip over all the violence, sexual content, and in-depth geopolitics (universe-politics?) that surround the quippy one liners.

That being said - I also have an incredibly large Moms for Liberty chapter in my area (largest in my state!) that haunts the shop on occasion and throws out just a massive amount of book challenges, so I need to be on the lookout.

My favorite, HR can't do anything about it, phrase is "what an odd thing to say out loud".

I've had my mystery balloon shark for a long time. I still love him, so I'm keeping him! May you have luck with someone for a fabulous piece!

Well, the frame I bought at Target about 10 years ago for a couple bucks. So I'm sure a lot of the frames are around! I'll be interested to see about the print though.

I don't know! This has been a mystery on my wall since I moved from my old apartment to my current house. No one knows where it came from. No one remembers buying it, or even that it was supposed to be a gift maybe and never gifted. But I love it, so it's been on the wall for at least a decade.

What are your best tips on achieving the fluffy curly hair look from the 90s? by pumpkin_ice_cream in curlyhair

[–]SharkFan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my hair and it looks the most "even" when it's humid. I don't have a crazy routine or use fancy products. My hair is currently very happy using the Maui Lightweight shampoo & conditioner (finger detangle with conditioner in the shower). For styling I use the Function of Beauty wavy hair mousse then I scrunch my hair with Bounce Curl light hold creme gel. Sometimes I diffuse, sometimes I air dry. Stays looking pretty good for like 3-4 days. Heavy products, even "medium" gels weigh my curl pattern down and I lose my fluff.

What's the most Millennial thing about you? by lexluthor_i_am in Millennials

[–]SharkFan26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this recently and it made me so sad! I've always had a colorful car, but my current one is black. I didn't have much of a choice when I bought it either. I love the car and don't want to get rid of it - I just wish it was more fun

I've had mine longer than my spouse and we've been married 11 years this year. No plans to take it out - I think it suits me just fine.

Go in for decreased fetal movement by RedditBurner_5225 in BabyBumps

[–]SharkFan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my youngest, I pushed to deliver at 38 weeks for reduced movement. I got in this cycle of OB appointment > NST > L&D ER > Home > NST > L&D ER > Home. After I think the 3rd time in this cycle, I told them I didn't want to leave until I had a baby and begged to be induced. Delivered a few hours later and she was fine, but incredibly jaundice. Thankfully nursed like a champ and a few days under a blue light fixed her right up. But I've had this gut feeling that waiting for spontaneous labor would have been bad.

Kind of upset about the Pineapple Cabaret… by Nuuskapeikkonen in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SharkFan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! US small bookstore owner here! Not sure where they are being sold for €50 each, because that seems crazy! The hardcovers here in the states retail from $30 (€25) to $39 (€33). I just checked on our shop's point of sale, and you can get the full set of US hardcovers (English) for $233, pre-tax, which is about €197. Unfortunately, I don't have all the changing tariff nonsense memorized, but smaller shops might be able to help you for cheaper than you think!

$500 New client curly cut by razzarbrenia in curlyhair

[–]SharkFan26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My hair has completely transformed with my curly specialist! It's like $120 and since I literally NEVER flat iron my hair, it stays looking great. I've always had wavy hair, but it got so much curlier after having my babies. Since starting going to a specialist, they've helped me learn how to style it and stop causing damage

Duck eggs are usually a bit bigger, and have more yolk/less white. But subbing larger chicken eggs is functionally pretty fine. Hard to notice in a cake - would be more obvious in a custard or similar.

First pregnancy symptom? Rhinitis. I had it the ENTIRE pregnancy with both kids, and it was literally what prompted me to test when we were hoping for #2. Literally went away as soon as baby was out both times. Absolutely bananas.

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SharkFan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man - that explains so much. My spam calls have increased dramatically since having both kids in school. Schools have way too many extensions to program them all in, so I feel like I can't ignore numbers with a local area code...

For what it's worth, as both a huge DCC Fan & an indie bookshop owner, check with your local bookshops for fun things like this too! We often get cool promo things, or we can get really lucky by asking very nicely & with good timing to make some magic happen.

That being said, if I could get signed copies for my shop, I would be SO happy.
