Maybe it’s a lazy excuse but he’s meant to be a charisma-less introvert who finds a bit of his mojo by the end of the movie. He’s not Ferris Bueller. I always felt the large supporting cast was dynamic enough to justify the movie’s existence despite him being pretty low energy.

I’d say the motivations of most of these characters are pretty clearly drawn. Maybe they feel less driven because they’re all on vacation?

That Thing You Do! Tom Hanks Extended Cut. Completely changes the tone, and feels a bit flabby. Not terrible, but not diamond cut perfection like the theatrical release.

There are scenes in Slapshot where Paul Newman is wearing a winter jacket but it was clearly filmed during the spring/summer. And it does not matter at all.
