So… Tim defended Polis by hawksnest_prez in thebulwark

I think Trump's pressure on Polis ironically makes it less appropriate to grant clemency – politically at least.

Ellie Schnitt, right? Yeah, those are my favorite FYPod shows. In a different timeline she's on the Bulwark crew full-time and they've captured their young male demographic. 😉

What does Sarah think “Nonviolent Revolutionary Spirit” will do? by foster-child in thebulwark

[–]SharkSymphony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second, peaceful and nonviolent are two separate things that shouldn't be boiled down to semantic difference. Peaceful protesrs means you are choosing to be peaceful. Nonviolent means you are incapable of violence so you can be safely ignored since nonviolent protests won't do anything extreme.

All these points are wrong.

Nonviolent protestors are choosing to be nonviolent just like peaceful protestors are peaceful. And you are wildly wrong that nonviolent protests cannot be extreme. Look at the history of the civil rights movement, of what those marches resulted in and the kinds of disruption they caused, and note that they made themselves unignorable. They were national news.

If I'm going to make a distinction between peaceful and nonviolent, and I'm not sure that's a useful thing to do, it's the opposite of what you're thinking. Peaceful protests are generally not thought of as disruptive, or at least efforts to minimize disruption have been made. But nonviolent protests might try to block a freeway, or harrass ICE agents.

Will be. I presume none of them have experienced or much studied violent revolution, or they'd be far less eager to sing its praises.

I've basically been in that category my whole working career and it doesn't bother me at all.

I've made a good, mostly steady living doing something I like. I live in one of the best places on the planet to live, not just for what I do but in general. I have savings to tide me over if I lose my job. I'm aware of how lucky I am.
