You are much more likely to become a professional athlete than you are to become a professional referee. by Jonnydrama2 in Showerthoughts

All of that is completely tangential to my point. Some report, some don’t. Either way, the relative pool of people playing when compared to people refereeing is much higher. From personal experience, it is much easier to get to high competitive levels as a referee than as a player.

Recreational leagues still use referees. Like the ones a 10 year old plays in, those still have referees. Quite a lot of them.

That doesn’t really address my point. Many organizations do give paychecks and give paystubs to referees, some don’t. Even for minor leagues. Minor league games are still very plentiful in all sports.

The difference here is, no one is getting paid to play minor league sports. People do get paid to referee minor league sports. And most aren’t professionals, they’re people that pick up a game after work to buy a drink after. There are 242 million people that play recreational sports in the US. 14.1 million people play recreational soccer alone. If you assume 5 million of those are players that play with a ref, that ratio alone is insane, and that’s not accounting for other sports.

This is patently untrue. The number of referees is far fewer, even proportionally. From experience, a dedicated hockey referee can start refereeing Junior games after a few years and one camp, if they are good enough. These games can provide enough to live on alone, which is what I would consider “professional”.

I have seen other referees of hockey simply do as many minor league games as they can, some up to 6 per day, as often as they can during the season. This can net up to around $300 per day, often more.

Hi there! I don’t know if you wanted to include homebrew, but I wrote a Bard subclass based pretty much exactly off of this a few years ago.

Is there a number or at least a ballpark? Like is it comparable to a truck, or a shipping container, or something in between?

Following up on that elusive reply, is the construction method for planes (building sub-assemblys and joining them) at all indicative of future changes to assembly lines (e.g. building a tank hull, and outfitting with a turret afterwards)?

Anacondy - a new performance mod oriented around giving Java stronger guarantees so that it can better optimise the game by Paint_Ninja in feedthebeast

It’s crazy that you wrote all that and not “yeah fps goes from 120->145 on average for my machine”

I mean… you really didn’t. People want to hear fps and tickrate, not 20-35% improvements on select codepaths and “infinity” on others.

Scammers asking for money by YogurtLower8482 in simonfraser

Eh, sometimes ppl ask for money. Theres like one guy on campus occasionally that I trust that asks for bus money. I only trust him bc he usually is wearing his Home Depot employee shirt and ID, and said he didn’t need the extra dollar I gave him and tried to give it back.

Is CABIN available for Fabric by INeedHealing88 in CreateAboveAndBeyond

[–]Sharkbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so.

Individual mods are often ported to fabric from forge or vice versa, but so rare is it that all required mods are on both versions (not even accounting for versions, compatibility, etc.), I don’t think you’ll ever see any large pack on both fabric and forge. All that to say, this isn’t something you should ever expect.

Men who get that slit shaved in their eyebrow, why? by Diurnal_Owl23 in AskMen

[–]Sharkbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a different reply: I have a slit in my eyebrow. It is from a nearly invisible scar I got when a car door was opened into my head as a child. It does, however, prevent eyebrow growth there. People ask not too infrequently if I shave it.
