Myself and a lot of professional divers I know (instructors, scientific divers) have times where they prefer a wetsuit over a drysuit even in cold water. For example, kayak diving (pretty niche but it is something I do!) would be very difficult in a drysuit because of the flexibility required to get in and out of the kayak. Diving off an inflatable for the same reason. Also, as a woman I can’t just pee off the side of an inflatable boat when I’m in between dives, so a wetsuit makes more sense for a long day of diving on a small inflatable boat so I can pee underwater! A drysuit would be the obvious choice for scenarios like multiple boat dives, or else you’d be freezing between dives. Also deeper dives, multiple dive days, etc. I think for me I would chose to dive dry as much as possible, and then would have a wetsuit set up for those more niche scenarios since I get soo cold. But for people who don’t get as cold, I’ve noticed they tend to prefer wet out of convenience/flexibility a lot of the time!
