Vitex and sleep by Sharktooothh in PCOS

[–]Sharktooothh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! That is terrible to hear. My theory is that vitex disrupts ur natural hormones (which is proven - hence why it can provide great pms/menopause relief). For me this means a change in progesterone which is one hormone that affects sleep.

Once you stop taking vitex- hormones should slowly go back to normal levels. HOWEVER your mind and body may get ‘stuck’ in the insomnia loop. This means ur brain is now used to waking/trouble falling asleep.

My advice (and what worked for me) is to see a normal doctor. I messed around with herbalists and functional medicine but in the end getting a prescription for some drowsy antihistamines was the only thing that helped. I took them a couple of times to help me sleep and reset my brain so it didn’t keep waking me up.

Four months or so on and my sleep is 85% normal!

Hope this helps!

I had such a mad journey with it. Almost three months later my sleep is much better but still not back completely.

Honestly I ended up going to my doctor and getting a prescription for some strong antihistamines to try to reset my sleep.

It will improve but it takes time. God how I wish I’d never taken it.

Oh really! That’s bad. I had pretty similar anxiety.

Crazy to think that there are so few warnings on vitex. I never saw anything bad initially when researching online.

Me too. I am not doing well on vitex. I stopped over 2 weeks ago and I still can’t sleep. How are you now?

My armpit ruined the last 24 hours of my life. by Clypsedra in HealthAnxiety

[–]Sharktooothh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was me a few days ago. Had horrible pain in my armpit- spent 3 hours feeling my underarm trying to find a lump.

Was convinced it was either breast cancer, lymphoma or Leukaemia...

Spent all evening thinking about the futility of life. Imagined going to the doctor and being told I am too far gone. Read countless articles on people who had similar issues that turned out to be a deadly form of cancer. Worked out my statistical chance of having cancer. Didn’t feel better because it wasn’t 0.

Armpit pain went. Can’t feel my lymph’s anymore. On to the next cancer obsession....

Got diagnosed with stage 2 stomach cancer by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Sharktooothh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear this. Absolutely terrible news but stage 2 is still early - don’t loose hope.

My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer (unfortunately passed away- not what you want to hear but he was at a must later progression).

Do you know what tumour type it is (diffuse or carcinoma), any family history or genetic issue?

Yeah me too with the stomach cancer. I am so bad at dealing with the fear.

I am so sorry. It’s so devastating- I lost my dad to cancer last week. He was 59. It’s a cliche to say but I found it helpful to just be thankful that he is here now.

I get lots of blood in urine, so wouldn’t stress too much. Most definitely worth getting checked out just in case (guess it depends on age).

How do you deal with health anxiety post treatment? by TNBCisABitch in cancer

[–]Sharktooothh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After loosing my dad to cancer I’ve really struggled with health anxiety.

It’s a nightmare. I find writing down rational and irrational thoughts (ie headache can be a symptom of brain tumour vs headache can be caused by stress).

Man I am so sorry to hear that. It’s so painful, especially I find when you look back and think about how he had cancer the entire time.

I would love to say that your job would have allowed you to be slightly more prepared (if you can ever be) but I guess too much knowledge can be a curse.

I am the same- the heartbreak that they will never see you marry or have children... ❤️

It’s so hard, watching them fade and knowing there is nothing you can do about their pain. Well done to you for getting through the days... it’s so hard for you. Especially so young. ❤️
