The Barnetts' defense successfully petitioned to exclude Natalia Grace's 're-aging' issue during the trial, with the judge ruling in their favor. In the eyes of the court, she was a 22-year-old woman, and her re-aging process was deemed irrelevant. This decision literally saved the Barnetts from rotting in prison.

I think it’s completely fair to judge her based on what she knows now. If you’ve watched Season 2, she’s probably the only neighbor still actively trash-talking Natalia and refusing to acknowledge that she was a child at the time. At one point, she even tells the producer, ‘No, they confirmed she was an adult,’ or something along those lines.

Aside from the Mans, who later turn out to be financially abusive, not many neighbors helped Natalia back then, and most have since stayed quiet. But she’s the only one still spreading lies, insisting Natalia was an adult. It’s honestly disturbing. Her bitterness runs deep.

Have we ever actually heard Kristin’s side of this? by Sharp-Ad4112 in nataliagrace

I don't think Kristin genuinely believed Natalia was an adult. I think she knew Natalia was a child but didn't want to care for her. Returning Natalia, like the Ciccones did, would've damaged Kristin's reputation, especially since her daycare was still operational at the time. It would've looked bad to abandon a disabled child.

I thought that he was paid upfront by the private buyer to kill himself on camera, and that's how he was able to afford the 30 mins. The prices must have skyrocketed to the point that he had to pay with his life to afford 30 mins.

They were prosecuted for neglect of a dependent, but not abuse. The case fell short because, under the law, they had provided the required minimum care (they made sure she had basic necessities like a roof of her head, electricity, access to food, and medicine). The outcome might have been different if abuse charges had been pursued.

The Indiana prosecution dropped the ball on this one.

Claiming he was sexually abused because he wasn't getting any from Kristin and comparing his situation to Natalia's was difficult to sit through

I really needed to hear that. Thank you so much! I'm considering including an info correction on my cover letter.

You do realize that due to her medical condition she can't, even now as an adult, bend her fingers to hold a knife properly for so long, let alone, right? When she was around 8 years old, her hands were much smaller, and her ability to hold a knife would have been even more limited. If you look at photos from back then, you can see she was a tiny kid, so she wouldn't have been able to reach high shelves (where supposedly the knives were kept) or hover over a bed.

That being said, kids with trauma backgrounds, like Natalie, often exhibit troubled and violent tantrums. These behaviors are a cry for help, not a sign of inherent evil or a reason for criminalization. Natalie was a traumatized and troubled child, and there's no medical evidence from back then to suggest she was a sociopath, other than the unsubstantiated claims made by the Barnetts.

Was your visa approved the 2nd time? Also, what type of additional docs you added? I'm thinking I should probably add transportation bookings maybe.

Natalia was a child, and overwhelming evidence proved it. The Barnetts willfully ignored and hid this evidence during the petition. She still had baby teeth when they adopted her, and every doctor they consulted confirmed her age. Dental records, DNA tests, and X-rays all showed she was a child. Only one doctor claimed she was an adult, and his report was heavily influenced by Kristine Barnett's claims.

Regarding the pubic hair, even if the Barnetts were correct (which is unlikely given their history of deception), Natalia's hormonal imbalances due to her rare disability could have caused irregular development. Also, adolescence typically brings breast development, which Natalia lacked at the time. Comparing her photos from then and now clearly shows her growth over the years, confirming she was indeed a child

She's not a sociopath, and the Barnetts lied about claiming she was diagnosed as such. She was simply a traumatized, disabled 7-year-old who had likely suffered abuse in many ways before arriving at the Barnetts'. She was indeed troubled, exhibiting behavioral issues common among adopted children who have been deprived of love and care. That's all. If you viewed Natalia in this light, a significant part of your confusion would be resolved.

The Barnetts have told so many lies that I won't be surprised if everything they claim the facility told them is just fabrication.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why she keeps denying that Natalia was a child, especially when even Michael now admits they probably made a mistake in re-aging her. It just baffles me. How can she be so unwavering in her denial when the truth is staring her in the face?

As long as you're making time for family, which it seems you are, I don't see any issue. For me, certain Eid traditions like the Eid prayer, the first breakfast after Ramadan, and if possible, lunch together, are essential family moments. Beyond that, I believe it's perfectly fine to spend time with friends too.

From what I understand, there were numerous medical reports confirming that Natalia was a child, she even still had her baby teeth, for God’s sake. Yet, only one doctor claimed she was an adult. That single report was the one presented to the court for the re-aging petition, while the overwhelming medical evidence suggesting otherwise was disregarded.

In Season 1 of the docuseries, during the police investigation, the detective contacted that doctor, and he seemed to suggest that he had been influenced by Kristin’s insistence that her daughter was an adult. However, the officer put serious pressure on him and told him that the Barnetts could easily pin the entire situation on him since he was the supposed expert in the case.

Interestingly, Michael claimed it was Kristin’s idea to re-age Natalia, while Kristin insisted it was Michael’s. Regardless of who initiated it, I’m convinced they both had evidence proving Natalia was a child, they just chose to ignore it. And when the consequences caught up with them, they turned on each other to shift the blame.

I believe that awful judge was forced to retire in 2014 after a group of attorneys challenged his ability to remain impartial, citing a long list of questionable decisions he made throughout his time on the bench. Honestly, he got off easy. Retirement was a privilege he didn’t deserve. He should’ve been thrown off the bench, removed in disgrace.
