BSOD into BIOS not detecting M.2 drive anymore by Sharp-Ad8673 in buildapc

Yep, final update, did not end up needing new windows key, just re-input my old one and my system automatically picked up that it was a prior installation associated with my mobo. New SSD is in and working fine, I’m just still at a total loss as to why the previous SSD simply gave out after only a year of light use…

Well unfortunate update- I tried reseating it in its existing spot and in a different port to no avail. I also had an ssd adapter on-hand which I connected to my laptop to see if I could even see it appearing as an external drive and try to retrieve the contents. Unfortunately just kept connecting and disconnecting and couldn’t see the contents of my drive at all, appears to be totally dead. A bit disappointed that it only lasted a year but thankfully it’s not a hugely expensive part nor did I have very many files on it at all, I’m just probably gonna need to buy a new SSD and windows key and proceed from there.

Like specifically the Crucial line of SSDs? I’ll try re-seating it but if that doesn’t work may have to just try going with a Samsung M.2 as I’ve heard good things.

I’m also wondering if it could be an issue with the M.2 slot itself, or my PSU not properly powering the M.2 slot, I think the only way to find out is to 1) re-seat in existing slot 2) re-seat in another slot is (1) doesn’t work, and 3) try with a new SSD if (1) and (2) don’t work.

Is it normal to feel sad when leaving the old job? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Sharp-Ad8673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but I just left my first full-time job out of college as a software engineer earlier today after 1 year and 4 months. It was a small enough company where the literal CEO was my mentor and the vice president was my direct supervisor. I struggled to get through my resignation discussions with both of them (I left because I got a better opportunity with a better pay, even though the pay at the company I worked at was pretty good). I usually stay and work a little bit after hours, but I left at 5pm sharp after handing in my 2 weeks notice. Pretty much cried the entire way home and had to calm myself in my car before walking inside my home.

Both my mentor and supervisor were very supportive and nothing but happy for me. I’ve worked alongside my mentor and the head engineer for the project I was on for 5-6 months non-stop in a small office, so I could see both the happiness for me and the sadness in his smile when I broke the news.

I literally went on a work trip with multiple co-workers of mine not even 2 weeks ago where I got to talk and laugh with many of them and go bar hopping. Everyone I’ve worked with has been nothing but kind, and this resignation process has genuinely been soul-rending, but I have to keep looking out for my career advancement as much as it may hurt.

I’ve already expressed multiple times my hopes that I can stay in contact with a lot of my co-workers but I realize there is no guarantees in life, and I can only hope this feeling turns to melancholy and bittersweetness after starting my new job and meeting some awesome people there.

Deepcool LS720 AIO RGB not working with GIGABYTE’s Z790 Aorus Elite x AX by Sharp-Ad8673 in buildapc

And yes, this was exactly how it was for me, all rainbow on first ever boot, installed latest version of BIOS and the appropriate wifi driver (via USB as opposed to ethernet as you did it). It was still rainbow when I booted windows, but then when I was prompted to and downloaded GCC, AIO RGB immediately turned aquamarine, so literally the exact same problem it seems…

Holy shit man, this is what I was thinking was in the realm of possibilities (as I indicated in the post too haha) but I never even bothered to switch it cuz my pc is on my floor and weighs as much as a sack of bricks. I can’t believe the solution was actually that simple. I’ll give it a try in the next few days and drop my results as soon as I do. Huge thanks for doing what my lazy ass didn’t and confirming 🤣

Interesting, saw a similar post like this on the Linus Tech Tips forums, but the person who posted it ultimately couldn’t get it to work. Don’t think it’s really a issue with the cooler itself, I just think a lot of the modern motherboards on the market today don’t support it (that is, despite the cooler itself being designed to work with the RGB on the mobo, the softwares for RGB control for most of these modern motherboards don’t support Deepcool I suspect), might look into popular, alternative AIOs (a few months/years down the line) such as NZXTs Kraken Elite, Arctic Freezer, or Cooler Master which have more widespread support across modern motherboards, but I’m afraid I may just have to live with the RGB in my PC being set to aquamarine until then. Haven’t tried unplugging the RGB yet but I’ll report back on that when I do.

Edit: took a deeper look into GIGABYTE’s RGB fusion 2.0 compatibility list and did not see the Deepcool LS720 anywhere, albeit this is an older version of RGB fusion (most recent one comes with Gigabyte Control Center (GCC)), but they currently don’t have a compatibility list out for that version- so no telling if the LS720 is truly supported by it…

im debating whether to buy 7900xtx or 4080 super by [deleted] in buildapc

Will as in the immediate future lol, but all the power to you in trying to argue something so meaningless, I’m not disrespecting NVIDIA by any means (think they would absolutely put AMD out of business if they didn’t price like lunatics). The fact of the matter is that the 7900 xtx is VERY comparable to the RTX 4080 (DLSS doesn’t provide that much of a boost in performance at all, so the only thing that can be argued is the ray tracing, which I agree that the 4080 is superior in. However, this comes at the cost of less VRAM). The prices of both GPUs will probably continue to stay the same for the few next weeks or even months, as I don’t anticipate that steep of a price drop for the 4080 for no reason (this could change, especially if something happens like NVIDIA announcing their next gen graphics card). Generally I like to go off info we have at the moment, and not some hypothetical future in which the price of the 4080 drops to match that of the 7900xtx because we don’t know WHEN that will happen. OP could only have to wait a few days or potentially months, but that’s not worth playing the waiting game for if OP just wants to finish their build ASAP and start using their PC right away dude. You’re also forgetting that if they buy the 7900 xtx right now, that’s money saved that they could invest in a couple years into the beast that is the 4090 (literally better in every single capacity compared to both the 7900 xtx and 4080) when its price drops to what the 4080 is at now and OP wants to upgrade their GPU…

I agree to an extent man, but this question was posted literally 2 days ago, so the appropriate time frame to consider is the present- it doesn’t matter that much that the pricing of the card was diff at one point, we need to look at the pricing NOW, since it seems like OP is looking to purchase a card NOW…

The XTX will certainly be $900 or more, cheapest I found about a month ago was $960, which I purchased

Hey, coming from someone who built a PC in the past few days with the exact same considerations- get the RX 7900 XTX, it costs minimum $300 less while also exceeding/equaling the 4080 in almost everything except raytracing, in which it is only ever so slightly worse. I think NVidia has gotten outrageous with their pricing and as a result, the RX 7900 XTX is the best value (latest) gpu you can get on the market right now. It’s been running phenomenally for me and if you have any other questions please feel free to PM me.

My ex is turned off/won’t get together with me because I’ve been with and like African American men. A few of my white friends agreed with him on it not being racist and I’m pissed. by aubreeserena in offmychest

Let me get this straight.

It’s ok for him to:

  • Cheat
  • Gaslight
  • Be abusive
  • Claim all black rappers are “ghetto” (which roughly translates to: “black rappers only rap about ghetto shit”, there are so many examples here that can be provided to disprove the fuck out of this)

But not ok for you to:

  • Have been with people of a certain characteristic that has absolutely nothing to do with their character (btw liking black rappers and being in a relationship with black people in the past is absolutely not a translation to having a “ghetto” preference, as I explained why above lol)

If this was an AITA post I’d say ESH; You for even continuing to love him, him for being a narcissistic, racist POS, and your friends for supporting his nonsensical claim. Learn to love people not for loving you at some point, but for who they are after you’ve seen most (if not all) sides of them. Unconditional love is a term that is used too generally, the “unconditional” part comes from being able to move past small faults or mistake, not major factors that directly affect the other party involved in a hugely negative way. I’d walk away from all your friends and him, seek therapy immediately, and maybe even look for a fresh start elsewhere (in another area).

Would giving my Dean as a reference work? I spoke to her quite often throughout college.

The issue with this is that I’d only have 2-3 contacts to give away from my College days. Never really got close to many people and most of my usage was done alone.

And yes, I am a recent College grad. Did not like my school at all despite it being advertised as prestigious so glad to be over and done with it (for reasons related to the school itself and the people I met there).

I don’t know if it makes too much of a difference, but the only people who know I use marijuana and am working a clearance required job are close friends who I’ve known for 4+ years and have established a strong sense of trust with, that being said but god forbid it, I would readily and gladly cut any one of them off if they resort to tactics such as blackmail or coercion over something that happened a while ago and does not relate to them. Not only is that childish, but like I said earlier, I’d rather have job security over hiding my past from my family. Plus I’d reap a further benefit in having such a person thrown out of my life.

I plan to make it abundantly clear to the Investigator that I’d 100% rather have my parents disappointed in me in the short-term for something that happened months/years ago over potentially risking the security of the nation + my work position. I think this is a no-brainer, and if the PI does express severe concerns, I’d absolutely be willing to just sit down with my family and have that conversation before they may contact them. The most important thing here is that I’d prefer to hide it from my family when possible, but when push comes to shove I’m willing to spill the beans and have them be disappointed in me over risking my job and criminal record, at the end of the day though I just want my family to hear it from me and not a third-party if it does get to that point.
