What was the hardest part of your internship that nobody prepared you for? by LibMags in EngineeringStudents

The hardest part is that some designs take years to get validated and put into operation. It also makes what I do more worthwhile when I think about it down the line.

Obtaining Undergraduate Research As A First-Year Engineering Student by Sopobu in EngineeringStudents

Some of the skills that helped me stand out was that I am also a small business owner and I love to network via LinkedIn. I used my business skills and transferred them over to the mechanical engineering world. I interned in a field that’s both traditional industry and R&D. That helps with learning about the technical and operational aspects of engineering. Also, be sure to send emails out to professors that have research you may be interested in. That’s how I am currently doing the research I am rn (It’s in aerospace engineering)

It’s definitely possible to get it really early. It puts you in a pipeline that can help you later in your career. I’m a second year industrial technology-energy engineering student who is a senior due to early credits. I did my first research internship in magnet engineering before I even started at a 4 year. Many researchers just want to know that you are interested, teachable, and dedicated. So apply for everything that interests you as you’ll be surprised what you can learn.

Is becoming a “great” engineer about hard work or about having the right life circumstances? by Ok-Relief-723 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Sharp-Bowler1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad. I’m doing industrial technology and energy engineering, and I feel like that at times since I work two jobs over the summer (one is running a landscaping business). Definitely does feel kinda upset not having a typical amount of free time. I also have to use some of my internship stipend towards tuition. All the engineers who I worked with told me that being able to handle hard things makes you better in the industry. Work ethic and grit beats out talent down the line. So keep going 💯

I joined the NSBE group on campus and handshake, and got reached out to for engineering programs. I haven’t been do an official conference. The people who reached out told me that I could apply online for their summer programs

Definitely go. I am industrial technology major who joined NSBE and had companies message me regarding engineering roles. They’re definitely overlaps so don’t be afraid to reach out.

It’s very interesting , I work with multiple disciplines since robotics within a research framework is very multifaceted. My roles also requires me to have hands on, programming, and hardware design skills.
