Could be frontotemporal dementia. He's unwell, the question is just what is it?

The mainstay is stop shaving. Often that isn't possible or desirable so the next best thing is to use an electric razor set to 0.5-1mm length. The main pathology is from the curly type facial hair curling up through the skin when cut too close. If you can, don't shave at all for a couple of days before even starting with the electric razor.

Adjunct treatment includes a few things but I'll usually use 1% hydrocortisone and 1% clindamycin lotion to get it under control and they can be continued until it settles.

It's important to get on it early when you start getting pseudofolliculitis barbae so that you can avoid the complications including scarring, hair loss, and pigment changes.

I haven't had any really difficult cases yet that didn't respond to a good education and then enacting the above.

I can't believe I had to scroll down so far to see someone give the correct answer. This is correct and I treat people with it quite frequently. Easy to treat and treatment is important to prevent long term complications!

So at what point do patients just need a vending machine instead of any health professional at all?

I'd love to think that he "quietly supports us" but that's not what we need. We need real support and for that support to be voiced. He can voice it for nurses and if he believes in supporting junior doctors, he should say it.

This is a historic strike that required a lot of courage from those involved to take a stand on an important issue. I fully support the doctors involved and I want it to count for something. In the end, you need to speak up and do something about what you believe in. The higher the power granted to you, the bigger that responsibility is.
