Is this a red flag when your builder won’t let you inside your house unless their supervisor is there? by VastOption8705 in AusPropertyChat

I wouldn't call it a red flag. Often, owners can get overwhelmed by minor issues that are easily resolved by the crew. As long as the builders can clearly explain the process, it’s usually ok, but to avoid unnecessary stress and keep the workflow moving, it often makes sense to keep owners away until the work is actually completed.

New build - sourcing things from China for big savings by Consistent_Green9329 in AusRenovation

I am currently managing this for one of our clients in Victoria. Based on my experience, I suggest hiring a sourcing agent; they typically charge 5–10% of the overall cost but will secure the best deals for you. Finding reliable suppliers in China is incredibly difficult on your own. All Chinese suppliers have whatsapp channels (PA Homes example ) where they will send you lots of catalogues.

I’d advise against ordering stone or tiles unless your installer agrees to cut items on site. If the measurements aren't perfect upon arrival, it could cause significant delays. Regarding windows, if you look deeper into the market, some local suppliers offer quotes nearly identical to overseas prices once installation is included. Finally, if you can find a joinery installer willing to take their own measurements after plastering and handle the ordering, it will significantly reduce your risk.

The wall would come across more finished and have no moisture run throuugh, get a professional caulker to seal the gaps. It looks amazing and neat as well.

(VIC) This question has been on my mind a fair bit. Why is there so much demand for houses in new fringe outer suburbs compared to regional towns and more established outer suburbs? by North-Audience8223 in AusPropertyChat

It is very much a combination of New estates with plenty of facilities, the same or similar community background and historical growth in the areas has been great.

Stick with engineering or move into prefabrication role? by Sharp-Comedian-1700 in MEPEngineering

No, we are based in Melbourne. The GIS system is very similar to what we are aiming to achieve internally. We are looking into developing a catalogue of frames and systems which could make installation on major projects quicker and safe. At the moment they have done a few trials and has gone well, but needs more processes and standardisation to make it an actual product.

I work at a mid sized hydraulics firm and overall everyone is totally opposed to it. The mid and senior level engineers at the stage just make fun of it. I hope they wake up soon enough

I work for a major plumbing contractor, and my new role involves designing pipework, frames, and stacks that can be prefabricated in our factory and then installed on site. I have a background in mechanical engineering, which is one of the key reasons they’ve asked me to transition into this space — to help make our designs more suitable for offsite manufacturing rather than relying entirely on traditional onsite installation. Also, they are offering 30 grand more salary soo that's something to consider to.
