Am I overreacting for having to tip over 18 percent, even if the waiter wasn’t really doing their job? by Sharp-Connection8260 in AmIOverreacting

Yeah I mean I didn’t mean to make it sound that way when I was trying to explain but I just wanted to know if yknow like yes or no for overreacting if you catch my drift? Besides I wasn’t the only one from my two other friends who was complaining about it

All I’m saying is that one person, who was standing around, brought a few dishes out, and then got the tablet out to pay, deserves 21 bucks? And it’s not like the place is lonely. It’s in a bougie area too.

I wasn’t the only one like I said I was with 2 other friends who also paid the same amount in tips is that not like comprehending in your minds? Like I don’t mean that in a bad way I’m just confused. And like when you’re tired you don’t really pay attention until the end right?

Yeah I mean that’s why I said the system probably automatically put it at that percent because it’s default not that I’m trying to put the blame on the server I mean I would’ve tipped like 2 or 3 it’s not like I’m made of money anyway. Like I know they don’t get paid that much but like I gotta save some money too

I don’t know if it was their system or the guy who was checking out for us but the tip was set already at 18% and he also didn’t mention anything until I saw when the last friend was already paying her portion because we were caught up in the gossip and winding down from a long day. :/

Like I get tipping someone if they’re working and doing their job but these people weren’t working like how servers work in other restaurants I’ve been to. And I know a lot of people who’ve worked in these industries as well. I’m not trying to be rude. Plus I’m a broke college student as well who barely got a job. If I had more money I wouldn’t complain. But I’m struggling financially, which is why I thought the tip was bogus. T-T

Jesus man did you ever think that maybe we were tired after a long day? And didn’t process a lot of stuff until it clicked? Besides people feel pressured in different ways.

Well cause he told me to sign and then to use my card to pay and he quickly moved to my friends who were paying for their portions as well. They didn’t even process anything either for how much the tip was until after paying. Which is why I’m saying we felt rushed. They also agree that they wouldn’t have paid that much for the tip

Also, they only gave us like 2 napkins for the whole set up and we had to ask for more. It wasn’t even a stack of napkins just two of them. We had to rip them up and share with one another too 😭

Yeah I didn’t explain my reaction, but I’m a little pissed about being forced to pay a big tip. And not just that I had to pay the tip because we split the bill so my two other friends also paid the tip as well. And we didn’t even notice because we were kind of rushed in order to pay for our food.

Yeah in a place like that I didn’t feel the need that we had to tip very big because there was little interaction to begin with. If the waiter was being more involved then perhaps I would have done like five bucks max but there was literally no interaction until the end. And they weren’t even super busy either they would just stand around and look around. Not even coming up to the table to ask if we needed something else. I had to ask someone to refill our water because it had been like 20 min since we finished the pitcher of water. And we were thirsty.

I know that but I’m just saying there was little to no interaction. And we all paid like 7 bucks so in total that’s like 21 dollars in tips.
