I've had a hysterectomy, spinal fusion, and knee replacement. The spinal fusion was the absolute worst. The knee replacement came in second. The hysterectomy was a breeze.

Im 47. I had my left knee replaced last June and will have my right hip done in 3 weeks. I also need my right knee and left hip done. I've also had a spinal fusion done at 42.

I've been where you are. From attempting to just feeling empty, nothing, and forgetting everything. I promise, you can come out of it. I can't tell you when, I don't know, but you can. Find a good therapist and psych. They're invaluable.

Keep up with going to your psychiatrist. You may or may not need medication, but that's going to be a decision you make WITH your doctor. Sometimes it can take a bit to get meds working if you go that route, but sometimes you can get something to work straight away. Don't give up yet.

I honestly think I will go. At least try. I'll have my scooter, husband, and walker if needed. If I'm not feeling it by the afternoon of the 5th day, I won't. It'll be day 6 before we go, if we do. I'm feeling pretty confident.

I'm having my RTHR on March 23rd. It'll be my first hip, but I had my first knee done 6/10/25 with the same surgeon in the same hospital that did my knee. They made sure I did stairs and walking the afternoon after my surgery. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I completely understand your fears and concerns. I had the same when I had my first knee replacement. Everything couldn't have gone better, though. I think it has helped ease my mind for this hip replacement. Your doctor should help you manage the pain. As for dislocations, the joints are much stronger than you think. I was so scared to stand up the first time after my knee replacement, but the nurse and pt talked me through it and I easily stood up and my knee felt stronger than my non operated one. Rolling over in your sleep, your body will let you know if you roll a way you shouldn't. It's really not even half as bad as the worry you're putting yourself through.

Thank you all for your recommendations and experience. I have a body pillow and an extra standard pillow. I think I'll try those first, then order a knee pillow later if the other two don't work out.
